🐾 Foster & Foster-to-Adopt: Our Process — Clear Information

Hi everyone, we’ve put together this post to clarify exactly how our fostering and foster-to-adopt processes work at New Dawn. We know there’s a lot of misinformation going around right now, so we wanted to set the facts straight.



📋 Our Foster Policy

When a dog is placed on foster or foster-to-adopt, the foster carer is asked to read, agree to, and sign our foster policy. Key points from our policy:

- ✅ All dogs remain the legal property of New Dawn Rescue while in foster care
- ✅ Foster carers must inform and get agreement from us before using any trainer or arranging routine vet care (such as worming or flea treatment)
- ✅ We ask for regular updates and that you reach out to us for support if any issues arise — we’re here to help!



🐶 Placing Dogs Directly Into Foster

Sometimes, when a dog urgently needs a place and we’re confident it’s safe to do so — for example, a puppy under 6 months or a dog with a known history — we may place them directly into an experienced foster home without a full prior assessment. This is only done with the foster carer’s agreement.



💛 Foster-to-Adopt Explained

Our foster-to-adopt scheme is a one-month trial period. It’s designed to let you and the dog get to know each other before making the full commitment to adopt.

Important details:

- ⚠️ We don’t usually place puppies under 6 months on foster-to-adopt
- ⚠️ Adoption fee: £400, payable no later than 24 hours after the one-month trial ends
- ⚠️ We do not extend the trial period or delay payment — and here’s why:
- In the past, we’ve agreed to delays and then had to chase for payment (on one occasion, someone told us they’d given the dog a “good home” so shouldn’t have to pay at all)
- When trials are extended, people sometimes change their minds after months — and the longer a dog stays in a home that doesn’t work out, the harder it becomes for them to settle elsewhere
- For young puppies especially, getting them settled quickly into their forever home is what’s best for them



💬 Why We Do This

Rescues don’t have to offer a foster-to-adopt scheme at all. We do it because we genuinely hope our foster homes will become these dogs’ forever families. We want what works best for our dogs — and clarity helps everyone.

We know there’s a small group of people sharing altered versions of our processes and criticising us for them. That’s their choice — but our priority remains doing what’s fair, transparent, and in the best interests of every dog in our care.

📢 IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM NEW DAWN MALINOIS RESCUE

It saddens us to share this, but we feel we must speak up. We are aware that a small group of individuals — including former admins, foster carers, adopters, and people whose applications to foster or adopt were unsuccessful — are running a persistent campaign against New Dawn. Bearing grudges, they are doing all they can to discredit our rescue and the work we do.

This campaign includes contacting our supporters directly to share altered, misleading information; setting up dedicated social media pages, a website, and a petition; and reaching out to other rescues, authorities, councils, kennels, and even our places of work to make complaints and discourage people from working with us.

The facts:
✅ New Dawn has been an established, experienced, and successful rescue since November 2017.
✅ Recent claims that "New Dawn rescue dogs have been bred from" are completely unfounded and untrue.
✅ The claim that "puppies are hidden in paddocks" at any location associated with our rescue is entirely false — this was made by former foster carer Samantha Hayes,aka Zing Zang who also stole one of our dogs, Jet. He was safely recovered by the police.
✅ Samantha Hayes also lost the claim she brought against New Dawn.

We have chosen not to get drawn into public arguments or respond to every allegation. Our focus remains exactly where it should be: on the dogs who need us. Even if we can only save a few lives, our work is worth doing and we will continue.

Please don't believe information shared about New Dawn unless it comes directly from our official page or is backed by real, verifiable evidence. If anyone contacts you making claims or asking you not to support us, please let us know — we want to be aware of what is being said.

Leon update

It took us a while to find out lovely Leon his perfect forever home and then it took Leon a little while to adjust to life with his new family who adore him 💕

🐾 🌿 NEW DAWN RESCUE – MEET NALA 🌿 🐾

Beautiful Nala is looking for her very own human. Could that be you? ❤️

Meet Nala, a stunning sable German Shepherd aged approximately 4–5 years old, with a whole lot of personality and an enormous amount of love to give.

Nala is everything you might expect from a Shepherd: intelligent, loyal, playful, driven and wonderfully affectionate. She's a bouncy, excitable girl who loves people and has a particularly special place in her heart for the child she shares her life with.

She's obedient, enjoys engaging with her humans and is just as happy having fun as she is curling up for a cuddle.

A little about Nala:

🐾 Loyal, affectionate and devoted to her people.
🐾 Playful, intelligent and driven.
🐾 People-friendly, although rather excitable and bouncy when meeting people.
🐾 House-trained and comfortable being left alone.
🐾 Good recall in appropriate environments, although cats, squirrels and other dogs can be very distracting!
🐾 Has a strong herding instinct and will naturally want to chase.

Finding the right home is particularly important for Nala.

Nala has significant difficulties living alongside other dogs and cannot simply be placed into a home where dogs are expected to share space and interact freely.

Ideally, we're looking for an only-dog household where she can enjoy being the sole canine companion.

However, consideration may be given to an experienced multi-dog household where a strict crate-and-rotate management system can be implemented and maintained safely and consistently. This means dogs must be kept physically separated, with no free interaction or shared access.

This is not a casual arrangement and would require a very specific, experienced home with suitable facilities and a genuine understanding of dog management.

Cats and small animals are also unlikely to be suitable due to Nala's herding and chasing instincts.

What are we looking for?

An experienced, committed home that understands German Shepherds and appreciates their intelligence, energy and drive.

Someone who will provide mental stimulation, appropriate exercise, consistency, boundaries and plenty of affection.

Nala has so much to offer the right person. She's a loyal, entertaining and affectionate girl who deserves a home where her needs are understood and respected.

✨ We're Looking For Foster Carers!

New Dawn Rescue is recruiting — could you open your home and your heart to one of our dogs? 🐾

We're looking for kind, caring, sensible people who have space in their home and heart to care for a dog temporarily while they wait for their forever home 🧡

⏳ How long? Sometimes our dogs find their forever homes quite quickly, other times it may take a few weeks or a few months — every dog is different.

🐕 About our dogs: We no longer take dogs with bite histories, aggression, or significant behavioural issues. However, some dogs do arrive feeling stressed and anxious, and they need a little time, patience, and understanding to settle in.

✅ What we ask from you:

- Willingness to follow our guidance and management plans (e.g. muzzling/leading in public where advised)

- Patience and kindness
​
- Space in your home and life for a dog

💛 What WE provide:

- Full ongoing support from our experienced team
​
- All necessary equipment (within reason)
​
- 100% of all vet costs and expenses covered
​
- Dogs remain legally owned by the rescue — so you just love them while they're with you
​
- And if you fall in love? You're very welcome to formally adopt your foster dog!

📢 New Dawn Rescue — Update

Hi everyone 👋

It’s been a little quiet on our page lately, but please know — we are still here, and still very active behind the scenes.

Back in May 2026, we shared that we were making some important and exciting changes to how New Dawn runs, and we’d hoped to hold a celebration day to mark the fresh start. A colleague warned us at the time that the process would move "slower than an iceberg" — we laughed then 😂 — but here we are, five months later, still waiting… Fingers crossed we’ll have some good news to share with you all very soon! 🤞



🐾 Are we still taking dogs?

Yes, we are. But because Malinois are so difficult to rehome right now, we’ve had to become more selective about the dogs we can accept. Our responsibility first and foremost is to the safety of our foster carers, their families, their own dogs the dogs in our care and the General Public

We are unable to accept:

- ❌ Dogs showing any aggression towards people or other animals
​
- ❌ Dogs with a bite history
​
- ❌ Dogs with severe unmanageable issues (constant barking, extreme destructiveness, high reactivity in public, escape risks) that cannot safely live in a family foster home
​
- ❌ Unvaccinated dogs — to protect our foster carers’ own pets
​
- ❌ Dogs used as security/guard dogs — due to the potential risk to our fosters and the public



💛 Why the criteria?

Some might call us "fussy" — and we understand that. But the honest truth is: we have limited space, limited funds, and limited adopters looking for dogs that need highly specialised management or very specific homes. We simply cannot take on more than we are genuinely able to care for properly.

Rescue as a whole is in crisis — spaces are scarce, funding is stretched thin, and the number of dogs in need keeps rising. We will always do everything we possibly can to help where we can — but we also have to be realistic about our limits. 🙏

Attached are just some of the dogs we’ve been asked to help over the last few days. It breaks our hearts, but sadly, it is impossible to help every dog. We hope you understand.

Public Statement from New Dawn Rescue

A few days ago, we posted about the situation at the home of one of our former foster carers. We’d like to clarify the facts once more:

✅ No dogs in the care of New Dawn Rescue remain at this property.

✅ No dogs at the property are the legal responsibility of New Dawn

Over several years, at their request, we transferred legal ownership of some dogs to this former foster. This was done long before any concerns arose. Many of those dogs are now elderly, and some have sadly passed away from old age or illness.

- The last transfer of ownership took place two years ago, the dog in question had already been in their care for two years.
​
- Only one of these dogs had an adoption fee; all others were transferred at no cost to the person taking legal ownership of them
​
- New Dawn covered the cost of neutering for some of these dogs.

❌ No dogs belonging to New Dawn Rescue have been bred from at this property. This claim is completely untrue.

Regarding the claim that a New Dawn dog was placed there in January 2026: this is false. The dog in question was placed temporarily after it didn’t pass its police dog assessment. It was collected directly by someone acting on behalf of its legal owner — it was never the property or responsibility of New Dawn Rescue.

We have been in contact with the rescues, agencies and authorities currently involved. We’ve shared all relevant information and offered our help and support. We’ve also offered direct assistance to our former foster for the dogs in their care that are not our responsibility.

Once again:
❌ New Dawn did not "jettison" 28 rescue dogs at this property.
❌ We are not responsible for any "rescue dogs" currently at the property.

❌ Attached are screenshots of part of an email from the force in relation to a dog it's alleged was a New Dawn dog we placed at the property in January 2026

The dog was placed temporarily by New Dawn who acted as an intermediary until it was collected by it's legal no transfer of ownership to New Dawn occurred
