Pain Memory??? Or changing negative perception with Michael Peace.
After spending over 7K on vets, as a last resort Michael went to see her on a home training session.
This is Michael Peace’s approach for a calm and reassuring outcome. Napping often starts with a spook or fear which can easily escalate to rearing or backing up if push forward with out empathy to help the horse understand and accept the rider is there to help. With Michael Peace the horse starts to see the rider as someone they can refer to not try to eliminate.

As long as both parties are happy with the deal they get overall, the partnership will be productive and develop.
Horses have evolved to live in groups, and find it impossible to survive outside on their own. They are very sociable animals and put a large amount of emphasis on creating effective interactions with members of their group. It's important to them. They know the position of others.
