Just to show you we don't always get it right and my dog can be a ginger idiot when she wants to 😜
We were out super early this morning to avoid the heat. Early morning walks present a whole new set of challenges for working spaniels..
- more exciting scents
- different scent patterns
- critters out and about that are usually hiding during the day
It had also rained last night so the ground was wet, which also changes the scent picture.
So, taking all this into consideration, I worked with Artemis for pretty much the entire 45 minutes of the walk up to the retrieve in this video. I was keeping her engaged with retrieves, hunting games, practicing our stop and impulse control work. I do not want her practicing the behaviour of chasing everything she sees.
BUT, as you can see from the video, I overdid it. She'd had enough by this point, and just wanted to spaniel for a bit ... hence why she didn't come straight to me with the dummy. It's her way of saying, no thank you, I'm done ✋
And I respect that, she's not a machine, and gundog training, much as it serves a purpose for obedience and focus, should be FUN!
So enjoy watching Artemis (aka Pufflins 😆), being a t**t 🤣
