Spotting Pain in Cats and Dogs
Is Your Pet in Pain? Here’s what to Look Out For 👀
Pets are very good at hiding pain, but there are some subtle signs that can let us know something isn’t quite right. If you notice any of these changes in your cat or dog, it might be time to check in with us.
Common Signs of Pain in Dogs:
• Limping or stiffness
• Slowing down on walks
• Reluctance to jump, climb stairs, or play
• Whining, yelping, or changes in vocalisation
• Licking or chewing at a specific area
• Sudden changes in behaviour (grumpy, clingy, withdrawn)
Common Signs of Pain in Cats:
• Hiding more than usual
• Less grooming or over-grooming one spot
• Reluctance to jump up or down
• Changes in posture or walking
• Hissing, swatting, or avoiding touch
• Loss of appetite or quietness
What to do?
