Balach Dubh was in to get his blood pressure measured! We try and keep the patient as comfortable as possible when taking blood pressure readings. If possible we use minimal to no restraint, as this can often cause stress which can give a false reading!

As you can see Balach Dubh was very well behaved and enjoyed a little treat❤️

Bouncy, bright, affectionate, and always ready for an adventure - Spaniels really do bring a lot of joy to family life 🐶💛

They are often sociable, eager to please, and quick to learn, which can make them a lovely choice for many first-time dog owners.

But behind those waggy tails and beautiful floppy ears, there are a few important things to know before welcoming a Spaniel into your home.

Spaniels can be prone to:
🐾 Cruciate ligament problems
🐾 Slipping kneecaps
🐾 Hip and elbow issues
🐾 Arthritis
👀 Inherited eye disease
👂 Ear infections
🤢 Pancreatitis
❤️ Heart disease in some types, especially Cavaliers

They also tend to need plenty of exercise, regular grooming, and a little extra ear care. Those glorious ears are very cute, but they do like to keep us vets busy from time to time.

Winnie the bunny came in to us for her 6 month health check this week! 🐰

As Winnie is part of a bonded pair, she came into practice on the day of her appointment with her friend Robin as company! This helps reduce stress for both bunnies as they enjoy each others company! ❤️

Let’s help our pets beat the heat 💪

Hot weather can be lovely for us, but it can be dangerous for our pets 🌞🐾

Heatstroke can come on quickly, and every year vets see pets who need emergency treatment because they have become too hot.

The early signs can include:
🥵 Heavy panting that does not settle
💧 Drooling more than usual
😟 Seeming restless, confused, or weak
🐾 Wobbling or not wanting to move
🤢 Vomiting or diarrhoea

In severe cases, pets can collapse or have seizures. Heatstroke can be life-threatening, so it is always better to act early.

A few simple ways to help keep your pet cool:
🌅 Walk dogs early in the morning or later in the evening
🚫 Skip the walk completely in extreme heat
💦 Keep water bowls topped up
🌳 Choose shade whenever possible
🧊 Use cool mats, wet towels, or frozen treats
🏡 Keep curtains closed in sunny rooms

And remember, no dog ever suffered from missing one walk, but a walk in the heat can become very serious very quickly.

🐱James🐱

James spent the day with us to have a general anaesthetic so he could have his teeth scaled and polished😁 During this time take a set of x-rays of the teeth to make sure there is nothing going on under the gum🩻

James recovered well & truly was a star patient ⭐️
