Balach Dubh was in to get his blood pressure measured! We try and keep the patient as comfortable as possible when taking blood pressure readings. If possible we use minimal to no restraint, as this can often cause stress which can give a false reading!

As you can see Balach Dubh was very well behaved and enjoyed a little treatโค๏ธ

๐ŸŒž What better way to stay cool ๐Ÿ˜Ž ๐ŸงŠ today than read the 3rd edition of our Breed series from Village Vets Formby and Crosby

The link ๐Ÿ”— is in the article ๐Ÿ“ below ๐Ÿ‘‡ and this week itโ€™s Spaniels ๐Ÿถ

P.S. As it is hot out there, there is also an article on how to manage your animals in the heat as well ๐Ÿ‘

๐Ÿพ 10 week breed series: Part 3 - Spaniels ๐Ÿพ

Bouncy, bright, affectionate, and always ready for an adventure - Spaniels really do bring a lot of joy to family life ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿ’›

They are often sociable, eager to please, and quick to learn, which can make them a lovely choice for many first-time dog owners.

But behind those waggy tails and beautiful floppy ears, there are a few important things to know before welcoming a Spaniel into your home.

Spaniels can be prone to:
๐Ÿพ Cruciate ligament problems
๐Ÿพ Slipping kneecaps
๐Ÿพ Hip and elbow issues
๐Ÿพ Arthritis
๐Ÿ‘€ Inherited eye disease
๐Ÿ‘‚ Ear infections
๐Ÿคข Pancreatitis
โค๏ธ Heart disease in some types, especially Cavaliers

They also tend to need plenty of exercise, regular grooming, and a little extra ear care. Those glorious ears are very cute, but they do like to keep us vets busy from time to time.

Thinking of getting a Spaniel, or already sharing your sofa with one?

Our latest breed guide explains what to expect, what health concerns to be aware of, and what questions to ask before bringing one home.

Winnie the bunny came in to us for her 6 month health check this week! ๐Ÿฐ

As Winnie is part of a bonded pair, she came into practice on the day of her appointment with her friend Robin as company! This helps reduce stress for both bunnies as they enjoy each others company! โค๏ธ

๐Ÿšจ ๐ŸŒž You canโ€™t have enough messages about Pets in the Heat when the temperatures are soaring ๐ŸŒž ๐Ÿšจ

Teampawsome at Village Vets Formby and Crosby are resharing their post about managing pets ๐Ÿฑ ๐Ÿถ in the heat ๐Ÿฅต

Please share ๐Ÿค with others as we believe you canโ€™t mention this enough.

The link ๐Ÿ”— to the full article ๐Ÿ“ is below ๐Ÿ‘‡ and there is a pinned article on the Village Vets Formby And Crosby pages

Letโ€™s help our pets beat the heat ๐Ÿ’ช

Hot weather can be lovely for us, but it can be dangerous for our pets ๐ŸŒž๐Ÿพ

Heatstroke can come on quickly, and every year vets see pets who need emergency treatment because they have become too hot.

The early signs can include:
๐Ÿฅต Heavy panting that does not settle
๐Ÿ’ง Drooling more than usual
๐Ÿ˜Ÿ Seeming restless, confused, or weak
๐Ÿพ Wobbling or not wanting to move
๐Ÿคข Vomiting or diarrhoea

In severe cases, pets can collapse or have seizures. Heatstroke can be life-threatening, so it is always better to act early.

A few simple ways to help keep your pet cool:
๐ŸŒ… Walk dogs early in the morning or later in the evening
๐Ÿšซ Skip the walk completely in extreme heat
๐Ÿ’ฆ Keep water bowls topped up
๐ŸŒณ Choose shade whenever possible
๐ŸงŠ Use cool mats, wet towels, or frozen treats
๐Ÿก Keep curtains closed in sunny rooms

And remember, no dog ever suffered from missing one walk, but a walk in the heat can become very serious very quickly.

We have put together a helpful guide on how to spot heatstroke, what to do if your pet overheats, and simple ways to keep them safer when temperatures rise.

Tap the article link to read it now and help keep your pet cool, calm, and safe this summer ๐Ÿ“ฒโค๏ธ
