Please be aware while out in the countryside this weekend and over coming weeks.
High wildfire risk alert for Northumberland 🔥
We are urging everyone to exercise extreme caution as wildfire risk remains high across the county following a major incident at Wark Forest that took over two days to extinguish.
🚒 Fire crews from NFRS, Cumbria, RAF, and Forestry England worked tirelessly to contain the blaze, which scorched over 4,000 square metres of young trees, grassland, and bracken.
🙌 Help us prevent wildfires by following these tips:
❌ Avoid open fires, campfires, or BBQs in the countryside
🚭 Fully extinguish ci******es before discarding
🚯 Take all litter home, don't risk accidental ignition
🚗 Be cautious when parking on dry vegetation; hot exhausts can spark fires
🔥 Refrain from prescribed or controlled burns during this high-risk period
📲 If you spot a wildfire, call 999 immediately and provide:
Exact location (grid reference or What3Words)
Direction the fire is spreading
What is burning (grass, trees, etc.)
Any immediate threats or hazards
