☀️🐾 HOT WEATHER — THINK BEFORE YOU WALK 🐾☀️

As the hot weather is set to continue into tomorrow, please think carefully before walking your dogs during the day. We have seen so many dogs being walked this afternoon despite the extreme temperatures.

Today in Challock temperatures reached 31°C in the shade at 2pm, and tomorrow is forecast to peak at around 30°C from 1pm onwards.

Even for us humans, this heat has felt unbearable today — and if we’re struggling, imagine how it feels for our dogs wearing fur coats and walking on hot pavements.

Little Dolly is currently laid on the floor in front of the fan and she’s still panting because she’s hot — and she hasn’t even been outside in it. That alone shows just how difficult this weather is for our dogs. 💛🐶

This post is not about shaming owners at all. We all love our dogs and want the best for them. It’s simply a gentle reminder that in temperatures like these, what feels like a normal walk can quickly become dangerous for them.

Please consider:
🐾 Walking early in the morning or late in the evening
🐾 Checking the pavement temperature with the back of your hand
🐾 Taking plenty of water
🐾 Keeping walks short and shaded

If it’s too hot for you, it’s definitely too hot for them. Please help keep your four-legged friends safe and cool.

This weather really hits our industry hard.

Over the last few days, many of us in the dog industry have had to make the decision to cancel classes, workshops, walks, training sessions, daycare activities and events.

As small businesses, every cancellation has an impact. We lose income, spend hours rearranging schedules, and often absorb costs that can’t be recovered.

But dog welfare will always come first.

No class, walk, workshop or training session is worth putting a dog at risk. When temperatures soar, our responsibility is to keep dogs safe, even when it’s the harder business decision.

So today, I’d love to shine a light on the amazing small businesses who are also putting welfare first. If you know a dog trainer, walker, daycare, groomer, physio, hydrotherapist, pet sitter or any other pet professional who has been affected by the heat, tag them below and give them a follow.

Supporting small businesses costs nothing, but it can make a huge difference.
