🐇 Did you know rabbits are the third most popular pet in the UK - and one of the most misunderstood?

In the wild, rabbits live in warrens - social, busy, constantly in company. That’s why a rabbit kept alone can become bored, anxious, and withdrawn, no matter how much human interaction they get.

The RSPCA recommends keeping rabbits in bonded pairs or groups.

Not sure where to start? Claygate Vets can help - from health checks before bonding to advice on introductions. Call us on 01372 460107. 🐾

🎒 Don’t forget to prepare your pet before the kids go back to school next month.

Back to school means your cat is about to go from constant company to hours alone. Some cats can find this transition distressing.

🐹 Guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils and rats all feel the heat more than most owners realise – and small hutches or cages can turn into ovens surprisingly quickly.

Here’s how you can help:

- Keep cages out of direct sun completely, not just dappled shade.

- Bring outdoor pets indoors to a cool room and use curtains or blinds to block the sunlight.

- Add extra water bottles and/or bowls in case one gets warm.

- Offer them cool hydrating veggies like cucumber, lettuce and greens, chilled or soaked in cold water.

- Introduce cooling mats, tiles or ceramic dish in their cage. This gives them somewhere cool to rest against.

⚖️ End of summer is a good moment to check in on your pet's weight - especially if they've been less active during the hotter weeks.

Many UK pets are carrying more weight than is healthy - and a lot of owners simply don't realise the impact this can have. It's one of the most common preventable health issues we see, and the good news is it's very manageable with the right support.
