💊🐾 Important Update: Prescription Medication Rules for Pets 🐾💊

You may have noticed that your vet sometimes asks to see your pet before prescribing or repeating certain medications. This isn't to make things more difficult—it's to make sure your pet is receiving the safest and most appropriate care.

Current UK veterinary prescribing regulations mean that:

🐶🐱 Your pet must be under our care before we can prescribe Prescription Only Medicines (POM-V).

🩺 Regular check-ups are required to ensure medications are still suitable, effective and safe. Your vet will decide how often your pet needs to be examined based on their condition and the medication they're taking.

💊 Some long-term medications can be prescribed for longer periods, while others require more frequent examinations or monitoring, such as blood tests or blood pressure checks.

📋 Written prescriptions are available on request, allowing you to purchase medication from another veterinary practice or an accredited online pharmacy if you wish. A prescription fee may apply.

❤️ These regulations are in place to protect your pet. Health conditions can change over time, and regular examinations help us:
✔️ Ensure medication is still the correct choice.
✔️ Check for side effects.
✔️ Adjust doses if needed.
✔️ Detect any new health concerns early.

We understand it can sometimes be frustrating if you're asked to book a check-up before more medication can be dispensed, but these guidelines are designed with your pet's wellbeing at heart.

If you're unsure when your pet is next due for a medication review, or have any questions about their prescriptions, please don't hesitate to contact our friendly team—we're always happy to help. 💚🐾

🌾🐶 Little Ted's Grass Seed Adventure! 🐶🌾

Meet the absolutely gorgeous Little Ted, who recently visited our fantastic vet Teresa, after getting a grass seed lodged deep inside his ear. 💚

Grass seeds may look harmless, but they can cause a lot of pain and irritation. Their pointed shape means they can work their way further into the ear canal, leading to infection, damage to the eardrum, or even migrate into surrounding tissues if left untreated.

To safely remove the grass seed, Little Ted was given a light sedation. Sedation allows us to thoroughly examine the ear canal and remove the grass seed without causing stress or discomfort. It also keeps your pet completely still, helping our vets remove the seed safely while reducing the risk of injury to the delicate ear canal.

The good news is that Little Ted's grass seed was successfully removed, and he was soon on his way home to recover with plenty of cuddles! 🥰

🌿 Top tip: During the warmer months, especially after walks through long grass or fields, check your dog's ears, paws and coat for grass seeds. If your dog starts shaking their head, scratching at an ear, or seems uncomfortable, give us a call as soon as possible.

We hope you're feeling much better now, Little Ted! ❤️🐾

🐹✂️ Say hello to the adorable Neville and Ron! ✂️🐹

These two gorgeous guinea pigs popped in to see us for a little claw clip today. 🥰

Just like cats and dogs, guinea pigs’ nails continue to grow and sometimes they need a helping hand to keep them at a comfortable length. Overgrown claws can become curled, uncomfortable, and can even affect the way they walk, so regular checks are really important. 🐾

Neville and Ron were absolute superstars and were very well behaved for their mini pedicure! 💕 They’re now ready to get back to enjoying their adventures (and probably plenty of tasty snacks too! 🥬😊)

Well done boys! ❤️

🐾💚 Say hello to the gorgeous Kiwi and Mango! 💚🐾

These two beautiful cats came to see us for their routine neutering procedures. 🐱✂️

Neutering is an important part of responsible pet ownership and has many benefits, including helping to prevent unwanted litters, reducing the risk of certain health problems, and in many cats it can help reduce behaviours such as roaming and fighting.

Kiwi and Mango were absolute stars throughout their visits and are now back home enjoying some well-earned rest and cuddles. 🥰🏡

A huge thank you to their owners for trusting us with their care. ❤️
