Staff pets create just as much trouble 😵‍💫
Our Head RVN's own cat, Whisky 🥃, quickly started to develop patches of alopecia (fur loss) on her belly, ears, and face.
The fur & skin was sampled and sent to the laboratory to be examined under the microscope and cultured to see if any organisms grew.
Unfortunately, the result was a staphylococcus infection. This is a very common bacteria, found on healthy humans and animals. In this case it is a secondary infection, meaning something else has already compromised the skins ability to protect itself, allowing the bacteria to grow. The initial allergy must therefore be controlled to prevent the infection reoccurring.
After a two week course of a particular antibiotic (which the laboratory testing proved to be effective), and a strict diet of Virbac Dermatology food, Whisky's skin is back to normal 👏🏼👏🏼
Virbac Dermatology Support restores skin & coat health. It is rich in high quality animal proteins and amino acids which are the building blocks of healthy skin & hair. The essential nutrients of Omega 3&6 fatty acids and antioxidant vitamins A&E promote recovery & protection.

Learning complete ✔️
Today, Vétoquinol joined us for a refresh training session on seizure management.
Our whole team is part of every patient's journey - so our Reception team knows how to triage the initial phone call to ensure your pet gets prompt care, our RVNs know how to correctly collect the blood samples for testing, whilst monitoring your pet and our Vets know how to investigate for a diagnosis and interpret results.

We are always ensuring our knowledge is up to date to deliver the best care.

Surgical photos below.

Benny came to see us for a limp and a swollen paw. His owners had already pulled out a thorn from his paw and were suspicious there may be some material left behind.

Under general anaesthetic, we were able to examine his paw in detail and retrieve a grass seed fragment from deep inside the paw. While Benny was asleep we performed a full scale and polish of his teeth, setting him up for good dental health in the future.

Speak to any of our Vets or Nurses about dental care for your pets and the role that dental cleaning under general anaesthetic plays in preventing serious dental disease.

This is the lovely Willow 😊
Willow came in on the May Bank Holiday Monday with symptoms of not wanting to eat, lethargy and not being her usual self.

She ended up needing an emergency pyometra surgery.
A pyometra is an infection in the uterus, and can lead to septic shock if left untreated. This can happen in female dogs who have not been spayed. In the attached photo (black and white) her uterus is huge in comparison to how small it would normally be.

Willow's owners were quick to pick up that something was wrong with her and brought her in for an assessment. Early detection is crucial in these cases. Clinical signs can be vague but include lethargy, inappetence and excessive thirst. There may or may not be a discharge coming from the v***a.

Our Head Vet, Aurobind, and VCA Aleks were on hand to make an ultrasonographic diagnosis and perform the surgery before the pyometra could progress. Willow was back to wagging her tail and taking treats by the next morning, and had her stitches out this week.

We’re so thrilled she is feeling better and back to her normal happy self 👏🏼 Checkout the happy photo!

Willow's owner is happy for us to share this post, and wants to share awareness.

This gorgeous boy Sonny came in for his first vaccination 😁

Vaccinations are very important for cats & dogs of all ages, to make sure they’re protected from all the nasties. We use the Lepto 4 vaccine, which covers all 4 known strains of leptospirosis in the UK, and DHPPi which covers for canine distemper virus, infectious canine hepatitis, canine parvovirus and canine parainfluenza virus. All which are very dangerous for your little ones to have.

Puppies and kittens start with a primary course of vaccines, which involves two vaccinations. For dogs, the first primary vaccine can be done at 6 weeks of age and the second vaccine will be done 4 weeks later.

Sonny has now gone to his new home and we are excited to watch him grow!

This beautiful little friend is Teddy 🥰
Teddy's worried owner rushed him in to see our fantastic vet Aurobind, as he seemed to be choking 😳
On close examination, the poor boy had a piece of a dog chew lodged in his throat!!
The team swiftly got to work removing the chew and luckily Teddy is absolutely fine and already back home with his lovely owners 💚

Several types of popular dog chews carry significant risks for dogs. The most common dangerous chews include rawhide (which poses a high choking and bowel obstruction risk), cooked bones and antlers (which can easily fracture teeth), and sticks
We would always recommend avoiding these things for your precious dogs 🐾
