Meet the Oranda Trio: A Tale of Fins, Fluff, and Feisty Flair

In a quiet corner of a sunlit room, nestled in a glassy realm of bubbles and drift, swim three extraordinary spirits of the water world—high-quality Orandas with the hearts of anime heroes and the fins of floating sakura petals.

1. Blushfire, the Rose-Hearted Wanderer
With his flaming vermilion coat and snowy crest, Blushfire swims like a drifting ember, dreaming of faraway koi kingdoms and forgotten treasure bubbles. Don’t let his noble stare fool you—this fish has a flair for drama. Tap the tank at the wrong moment and he’ll spin with such exaggerated offense you'd think you canceled his favorite anime. He’s the poetic loner, the studio Ghibli prince with gills.

2. Mochi, the Grumpy Blossom
Rounder than a full moon and twice as expressive, Mochi is the epitome of “cute but don’t cross me.” A rose-tail with the pout of a seasoned warrior and the sass of a spoiled forest spirit, she patrols her realm with flared fins and serious wiggles. Beneath that grumpy glare is a soft-hearted sweetheart who just wants her water pristine and her pellets punctual.

3. Mizu, the Ghost of the Misty Pond
Black and white, calm as a breeze through bamboo, Mizu floats like a koi caught between worlds. Serene but not shy, she’s the wise elder—even if she’s the youngest. Watch her for long enough and you might feel like you’ve unlocked a waterborne haiku. She dances through bubbles like a shrine maiden blessing the currents. Every flick of her tail is a whisper of balance.

These Orandas aren’t just fish—they’re characters from an unwritten anime. Loyal, expressive, and full of personality, they prove that with the right care (clean water, good food, and a little attention), even the quietest corners of a room can come alive with magic.

Look after them well, and they'll turn your world into a peaceful slice-of-life episode with fins.

Pond Plants & Why Fertilizing Matters
Pond plants do more than just add beauty — they help oxygenate the water, provide shade, and support a healthy pond ecosystem. But they need more than fish waste to thrive.

It’s a common myth that fish alone create enough nutrients for pond plants. In reality, most pond water lacks the essential food plants need to grow strong and vibrant.

That’s why regular fertilizing is important. We recommend feeding your pond plants every 4 to 6 weeks, depending on the fertilizer you choose. This helps them reach their full potential and keeps your pond looking its best.

Healthy plants = a healthy pond.

It’s wonderful! It’s weird! It’s… the Lima Shovelnose Catfish!
(Sorubim lima, if you're feeling fancy.)

With its elongated snout and sleek body, this quirky character is definitely one of the coolest oddballs in the catfish world. Part ninja, part submarine, and all attitude — the Lima Shovelnose glides through the water like it owns the place.

And guess what? You can keep it! These guys do great in the right setup with plenty of room and hiding spots. Perfect for anyone looking to add a bit of flair (and a little weirdness) to their tank.

We’ve got them in store right now, so come check them out while they last!

Spring Pond Care Tips

As spring rolls around, it's the perfect time to give your pond and fish a little TLC. At this time of year, we always recommend two key steps to keep everything healthy and thriving:

1. Replace your UV bulb:
Your pond filter’s UV bulb is essential for keeping water clear by controlling green water algae. These bulbs lose effectiveness over time, even if they still light up. Replacing it annually in spring ensures your UV filter is working at full strength for the months ahead.

2. Treat your fish for parasites:
Just like you regularly treat your dog for worms and fleas, your fish need the same kind of preventative care. Parasites can become active as the water warms up, so treating your fish now helps stop problems before they start. We strongly recommend doing this twice a year—once in spring and again in autumn.

A little prevention goes a long way in keeping your pond happy and healthy!

Zebra Pleco (Hypancistrus zebra, L046)

The Zebra Pleco (Hypancistrus zebra), with its striking black-and-white stripes, is one of the most iconic and stunning species in the pleco world. Native to the Xingu River in Brazil, it’s a small fish (maxing out at 4.5 inches) that stands out for its beauty and rarity, making it highly sought after by aquarium enthusiasts.

First discovered in the early 1990s, Zebra Plecos quickly became a prized species in the aquarium trade. However, overcollection and habitat threats led to conservation concerns, and they are now listed under CITES Appendix II to regulate trade. Captive breeding has been attempted but remains difficult, adding to their allure.

Zebra Plecos require specific care, including soft, slightly acidic water, strong filtration, and plenty of hiding spots. Despite their high price and rarity, their stunning appearance has cemented their place as a symbol of luxury and exclusivity in the aquarium world.

New Arrival: Plakat Betta Fish – Limited Availability!

We’re excited to announce that we’ve received a very limited number of Plakat Betta Fish this week! These stunning bettas are known for their short fins, vibrant colors, and strong, active nature. Unlike their long-finned counterparts, Plakats are closer to their wild ancestors, boasting speed, agility, and a feisty personality.

A Brief History of Betta Fish

Betta fish, also known as Siamese Fighting Fish, have a rich history dating back hundreds of years. Originally found in the shallow waters of Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam, bettas were selectively bred for their aggressive nature and used in fish fighting competitions. Over time, breeders developed a variety of colors and fin types, giving us the beautiful bettas we see today. The Plakat variety remains one of the closest to the original wild bettas, combining beauty with strength.

These Plakat bettas won’t last long—grab yours before they’re gone!
