Scent Detectives on Tour 🐾

Chai, Margot and Alfie taking their searches out to Pontcanna Fields and putting their noses to work in a busy public space.

With plenty of distractions, new smells, people and dogs around, the teams stayed focused, worked beautifully and had lots of fun along the way.

Outdoor searches always bring a different challenge and these three rose to it brilliantly ❤️

Scent Detectives Club 🐾

A little throwback to some searches in a new environment.

One of the challenges here was helping the dogs understand that odour doesn't always live on the floor 😅 Sometimes they need to search higher, follow the scent picture and trust what their nose is telling them.

Lots of thinking, problem solving and some lovely teamwork from the teams as they worked their way through the searches ❤️

Introduction to Scentwork 🐾

Taking our searches outdoors brings a whole new set of challenges.

A breeze can move odour away from source, there are countless competing smells and of course the added distractions of people and dogs passing by.

The teams did a fantastic job working through it all, trusting their dogs and letting those noses do the work. Some really lovely searching from everyone ❤️

Introduction to Scentwork – Week 5 🐾

This week the teams started putting together the four foundation ingredients of scent discrimination: motivation, odour recognition, search and indication.

Working in larger and more complex search areas, learning to trust the process and work together as a team.

One of my favourite parts of teaching scentwork is watching the pieces start to come together and seeing the confidence grow in both dogs and humans. It’s an honour to guide them through that journey ❤️
