🔥 High-Drive Training with King 🐾
In this video, I’m working with King to refine his obedience and control during high-pressure scenarios, which is crucial for a dog with such a high drive. Here’s how we structured this exercise:
1️⃣ No Ball, Just Feeding Regime: Unlike previous videos where King tracked and found a ball, this time, we focused solely on obedience and self-control using his feeding routine. Removing the ball keeps the focus on the training itself.
2️⃣ Calm Walk to Start: We began with a calming walk, ensuring King walked behind me to settle his excitement and stay composed.
3️⃣ Controlled Alertness: I placed King in a down position and walked towards the bushes, pretending there was a threat inside. As part of the exercise, I shouted commands like, "Come out, come out!" to simulate a real-life scenario.
4️⃣ Correcting Overexcitement: King’s drive is so sharp that every time I shouted, he instinctively stood up, edging forward to check on me. While I personally don’t mind this behavior in a real-life scenario, I used this opportunity to correct him back into the down position, showing how minor issues can be refined.
This exercise highlights the balance between allowing natural instincts to come through and maintaining obedience. In real life, having a dog like King edge forward to assess a potential threat can be beneficial. However, for those who prefer stricter obedience—such as in competitions—this training method can help address those preferences.
Training dogs with high drive, like King, involves both understanding their instincts and building their confidence while teaching self-control. Watch how King reacts to the simulated scenario and see how we work together to sharpen his skills!
