Behind the scenes… 👀

We are very fortunate to have not 1 but 2 very hardworking and enthusiastic new graduates. You might not know this, but every new skill set Georgia learns is under direct supervision before she is signed off to do the new skill or procedure solo.

Although she wasn’t on call yesterday morning, she was keen to join me before work to pop this lady’s uterus back in!

Today’s big learning curve was Georgia realising why I love wearing a disposable gown for replacing uterine prolapses 🤔😂

Don’t worry, the calf did realise there was no milk to be found in her armpit 🙈

No prizes for guessing what Dr Barnes-Browne is up to here…

We’ve spent the morning as sweaty as the pigs! Nicely castrated, these young men won’t be able to impregnate their siblings.

Although being restrained is quite stressful for them, they are well numbed with local anaesthetic and have injectable pain relief in addition 💉

P.s. if you haven’t realised, Poppy passed her exams and is joining us in July!

WATCH AT YOUR OWN RISK

This poor little lad had a chronic abscess which turned into the consistency of a stale brie. Fortunately,
Walking with Alpacas Lincolnshire Rescue rescued him and he’s getting a new start, which includes getting him comfortable on his feet again!

They do such a hugely important job rescuing alpacas around the country and doing health inspections. If you ever want to walk with an alpaca or donate to a very good cause, head over to their page.

And don’t worry, Rach isn’t going anywhere - we are going to have two fabulous ladies in the office (and Jo, working remotely) 💅

So proud of Binks for making top notch colostrum as a maiden mare 👌

Highly recommend checking IgG levels on any foal to a maiden mare or where timing of first feed may be delayed - Poppy can vouch for how easy it was to get blood from the filly!

I’m so delighted that we’ve had good absorption of antibodies from Binks’ colostrum that I will forgive the lab for misspelling my name 🫣

The eagle eyed among you may notice the little Filly’s stable name which seems to have stuck…
