Bardwell Manor Equestrian Centre Riding School and Livery Yard We teach children from 5 years and up and adults of all ages. We have 20 horses and ponies in the riding school.

We cater for complete beginners upto competition riders and career students. Indoor School & Outdoor menage. Hacking for competent riders. We offer working and schooling livery.

Sharon here. I’m posting to say that our longest standing customer, Maggie Bushell, has decided to hang up her boots, after 32 years having lessons with me .

Maggie originally started riding with me at Hill Farm Stables in Elmswell , which I was running before I moved to
Bardwell. She originally came to bring her two sons riding. Then decided to have a go herself. Having been brought up in London she hadn’t had the opportunity to ride. I recall her saying that she’d be happy just to get as far as trotting.

Maggie went on to do much more than that. She and one of her sons (Denis) rode twice a week for many years. Taking tests and joining in many competitions.
Maggie has always made a great rapport with the horses she’s ridden. Molly has been her main horse in recent times.

We’ll miss Maggie’s smiling face in our Wednesday 6.30 group. She says she’ll still be up to see us when possible.

I don’t think Maggie herself will look at Facebook- but I just wanted to say what an amazing customer (& friend) she’s been.

Sensitive horse so he needs a capable ride ( BHS stage 3/PC B or equivalent).
A nice horse to work with for flatwork and also a good hack.

Our top yard is still available to rent. Either as 11 boxes or the yard can be split into 7 and 4 boxes.
This is suitable for either private use of small commercial ventures. ( stud/ starting/ schooling/ full livery etc)

We now also have a room available in one of the bungalows on site. This room is suitable for a single person. The bungalow is shared & our yard office runs from here.The room & yard could go together. Alternatively, we are also able to accommodate someone in the room who has one or two horses on a DIY basis.

No smokers . No pets.

Sad to say that Anne had to be put to sleep late last night. She was 32 years old. She suffered a sudden colic and the decision was made. I had owned Anne for 29 years.

She was the best school pony one could have ever wished for. She taught hundreds ( thousands?) of children to ride over the years.

I purchased her from an auction in Stratford on Avon for 240 guineas when she was 3 years old and unbroken. Her full name was Anne Hathaway ( the Stratford connection) & she was purchased the same day as Mary.

She was wild when we started working her. Alison lungeing and Jenna clinging on , swearing for dear life. She then did a season or two of Pony Club with the Chatham family, alongside school work.
I remember that she was initially very worried about weaving in and out of cones. In later years, if she saw a line of cones she just went and did them, whether asked to or not!

She turned into the most reliable pony.
She will be sorely missed. It’s a long time to own a pony, since before Karl & I met.

Here’s Hob-Nob.
We’re looking for someone that would be interested in part loaning him. To stay here at Bardwell. He needs a very experienced rider as he’s sensitive. We’d be looking for someone that has BHS stage 3/pony club B test . Or can get an endorsement from a BHS accredited coach.
He can work nicely in the flat and also hacks out. Not a jumping horse. He’d suit someone that enjoys schooling/ flatwork.
He’s Andalusian x cob and now in his early teens.
He’s underused at the present time and would like a kind person to love him. We’d be looking for £250 pcm
We will continue to cover farrier , worming , vet fees. You would need your own public liability insurance.

A pass today for Constance in her Pony Club ‘C’ test. Karl and Constance headed to Ickworth for the test. Rosie was brilliant in the riding section & jumped well.
There’s quite a lot to the care section at this level. We’d been encouraging Constance to swot up on everything, so I’m glad it paid off.

Donna Rae & I ( Sharon) stayed at Bardwell & did all the teaching. Everyone rode so well & it was nice to teach some groups that I don’t normally see.

Our Story

We aim to help you improve your riding and understanding of equitation in a positive manner.We encourage all feedback. There is opportunity to take Association of British Riding Schools tests; if desired, and you/we feel you are ready.

Lessons are undertaken with the individual needs of the client in mind, we understand that people learn in different ways. We aim to set appropiate goals.

Through-out the year we have pony days and other activies.
