Did you know that keeping your dogs on a lead, especially during lambing season, can make a big difference?

Sheep worrying isn't just a minor inconvenience; it poses a serious threat to livelihoods and animal welfare. When dogs chase, attack, or stress out sheep, it can lead to devastating consequences. Pregnant ewes and their unborn and newborn lambs are particularly vulnerable, and even a brief moment of freedom for an unleashed dog can result in serious injury or death.

As responsible dog owners, it's important to recognise the impact our pets can have on rural communities. By keeping our dogs on a lead near fields with livestock, we not only comply with legal obligations but also show respect for farmers and the animals they care for.

By taking simple steps like keeping our dogs on a lead, we can help ensure the safety of our countryside for

⚠️trigger warning ⚠️ I don’t want to talk about these horrific deaths of young children in their own homes.
But we need to be more aware of what’s happening and I want to share with you exactly what to do if you’re ever in this situation! Please if you’re a parent make sure you read this as I will explain exactly what to do in a dog attack on a child.

The details have emerged about the tragic death of a 10 year old girl killed by the family pet.
The similarities between this case and the one I talked about this week with the malinois who killed a baby are terrifying!
-Both were trusted family pets with access to young children.
-Both incidents were said to be totally out of character for the dog.
-Both attacks happened in the family home.
-Both were incredibly fast and fatal.
-Both girls died from neck injuries
-Both families have been destroyed.

So please remember if a dog latches on to a person or child (or dog)there is only one way to stop the attack and that is to
➡️STOP THE DOG BREATHING!! ⬅️
You can use a belt/rope/lead/collar and twisting it around the dogs neck as high up to the jaw as possible until the dog lets go or by damaging the windpipe enough to stop them breathing.
➡️If they can’t BREATHE they can’t BITE⬅️

❌DO NOT waste time hitting or kicking the dog this will only agitate them and the chances of a dog letting go are very slim.
❌DO NOT try to pull the dog or pull the child out of the dog’s jaws, if the dog is latched on as it simply means the dog will bite harder to not release their grip.
❌DO NOT assume the dog will just stop the attack when you choke them - If you release the dog’s bite immediately secure the dog in another room/space/car as the potential is they will attempt to reattach themselves to the victim if given the opportunity.
❌NEVER leave your dog and child unattended! NEVER have a dog in the same room as a baby or toddler. Prevention is better than cure!
❌REMEMBER both these families would never have thought their pets would kill their child either and trusted them enough to be in the home freely together.
