For anyone who uses/walks at Wenchford/Blakeney Straights, be aware that it will be closed for a few weeks.
β οΈ Advance notice of temporary closure β οΈ
Wenchford will be closed from Monday 7 September for approximately two to three weeks while work is carried out on the weirs.
The lower weir steps have partially collapsed due to erosion. Without intervention, the water will continue to erode and undermine the remaining structure.
The work will involve removing the steps from both the upper and lower weirs. The stream bed will be reshaped to create a gradual slope with a natural rocky bed, helping to prevent future erosion and improve fish passage.
A larger beach area will also be created, and measures will be put in place to reduce further erosion of the stream banks. The channel running through the weirs will be slightly narrowed, and stepping stones will be installed to improve access to the beach area. The supporting stonework will also be repaired and repointed.
