🐈‍⬛Tales of a mobile cat groomer in Herefordshire 🐈‍⬛

I’m a bit late revealing last week’s 🌟STAR OF THE WEEK🌟 award! There was much to do ahead of flying off for our holiday. So whilst sipping a glass of wine in the sunshine 🏖️, let me introduce you to amazing Raven.

Raven is an 11 year old domestic longhair. She is a former rescue and has definitely landed on her feet with her Hooman. This was her first professional groom as she had matting on her hips and lower back that needed removing. She is known to scratch and lash out when she is afraid, so I knew that she would need to feel safe with me from the get go.

And she did AMAZINGLY. I had a relaxing valerian root herb play pillow tucked under the towel on the table for her to smell and introduced myself to her with the old Lick-e-lix distraction technique 😆🤫. ‘Om nom non’ said Raven who had never tasted anything so delicious in her little life. And with a sleight of hand, I passed the treat over to her Hooman who carried on administering whilst I got to work. And bush bash bosh, the matting was gone. And not a moment too soon - I had ran out of lick-e-lix!

I would have liked to have given her a really good comb through afterwards, but we got done what needed to be done before she got restless.

Here she is in the picture enjoying her valerian root herb play pillow afterwards.

What a little superstar. Well done Raven!

I will be enjoying a bit of downtime from next week. I currently have no grooming slots available between now and when we head off, so please bear with me if I am a little slow getting back to you at the moment - lots to do before we go!

Can’t wait! 🏖️

It’s time to reveal this week’s ‘STAR OF THE WEEK’ award!

This pretty lady is Milly. She is sooooo photogenic 😻🥰. Milly is very shy and nervous around strangers, but is a large, strong willed cat, with amazing strength when she needs to use it!

When I arrived for her very first grooming session this week, she was quietly hiding behind a blanket draped over a coffee table. She had some matting that needed removing and her claws needed trimming.

Reaching in and removing her from her safe place was not going to help her. Being a shy cat I wanted to try and help her feel safe enough to come out on her own. So I sat on the floor nearby placing treats and herbs the other side of her blanket so that she could smell them. And before long, out she popped, still quite nervous but now she was curious. I let her take the time to sniff around me and accept treats from me. And within a few minutes she flopped down near me. That was just lush.

So I repositioned myself to be nearer her on the floor and helped her snuggle into a towel which I then gently wrapped around her. And bish- bash-bosh the matting was removed. She wasn’t super keen on having her claws trimmed, but they were quite long and sharp.

For such a shy cat she did AMAZINGLY. All it took was a little patience, no rushing and letting her lead. Well done Milly!

This is a timely reminder of some great tips for our kitties as the weather warms up this Bank Holiday weekend. Keep them safe, provide cool or shady spots and make sure they stay hydrated (frozen lick-e-licks anyone?? 😋😻)

I don’t just offer deshedding grooms, mat removal or lion cuts. I also offer kitten grooms and introduction to grooming sessions. Let me tell you more about those ….

I’m a little late in revealing last weeks ‘Star of Week’ award, so let me introduce you to Agnes!

I first met her and her partner in crime Remy (white cat in picture) in March for their first deshed appointment. Whilst Remy was super cool and inquisitive, Agnes was very shy and not keen on the whole grooming malarkey- despite treats being on the menu! So I let her come and go, sniff my bag and tools and we did as much as she was comfortable with at the time. This was all about helping her understand that there was nothing to fear.

And this time? What a transformation. She was actively jumping up on to my table, rolling around in valerian root herb that I placed on the table, enjoying treats AND enjoying the groom 😻😻😻.

Last time I groomed her, I noticed that she didn’t like my hands on her body, so on my grooming table this time, I placed a large rolled up towel formed into a ring and let her snuggle into that. I then laid another towel across her shoulders and placed my hand on that instead of directly on her body. All these things combined worked a treat for her.

You can see in the pictures that on her first session she preferred to keep her distance and observe. This time - it was tails up and relaxed body language the whole way!

Being a cat groomer isn’t about powering through to ‘get it done’. It’s about building a trusting relationship between you and the cat. And when trust is formed, the rest is just magic 🌟

If you like my holistic approach to cat grooming, get in touch. I’d be happy to help 🐈‍⬛

It’s time to reveal this week’s ‘Star of Week’ award!

This is marvellous Patch. He’s a 15 year old lad who loves nothing more than exploring the woods near his home. He deserved this award because he totally rocked his groom this week.

I first saw him a few ago to remove tight matting on his tummy, under his chin, round his bum bum and up the base of his tail. These are in all the areas I would expect to see matting form - particularly for long haired cats that don’t mind exploring in all weathers! And long wet fur can matt very easily.

There was a lot to remove and many were in tricky spots which took a while to safely shave out. But his favourite Hooman was on hand to reassure and supply lick-e-lix to help distract.

I came back this week to tidy up and make sure he was completely knot and matt free. He was much more chilled this time, letting me get to those final awkward spots with no fuss. It was as if he knew this was going to help him feel more like his old self - comfortable and matt free 🤗. In the picture he is enjoying a post groom lick-e-lix from me 🥰😻.

What a superstar. Well done Patch!

We are now on a regular grooming schedule to make sure he remains knot and matt free.

Every cat is different and I adapt my approach to help your cat have the best experience with the best outcome. If you like the sound of how I do things and you have a cat that needs some TLC, get in touch. I’d be happy to help 😻🐾
