Jasper visited us this week for a COHAT after one of our vets, Lauren, noticed some gingivitis around a premolar during his routine booster appointment!

A COHAT (Comprehensive Oral Health Assessment and Treatment) involves a full general anaesthetic, dental X-rays, charting, and a scale and polish to fully assess dental health above and below the gum line 🩻🦷

Jasper’s dental X-rays revealed tooth resorption — a painful condition commonly seen in cats where the tooth structure begins to break down. The affected tooth was carefully removed, and follow-up X-rays confirmed complete extraction before the site was stitched closed by Fintan! 🦷

Jasper was incredibly brave throughout his procedure and will now be much more comfortable without this painful tooth 🤍

Regular dental checks are so important, as many dental problems can only be detected with dental X-rays under anaesthetic 🩺

🐾 We’d like to share an update with our clients regarding vet continuity at our branch practice 🐾

Following Zosia’s recent retirement, we know many of you will miss seeing her as much as we will!

Moving forward, you’ll be seeing the familiar faces of Fintan, Catherine, and Lauren, who many of you will already know. We’re also pleased to have our newer vets, Vidya and Deneil, becoming more involved in branch consultations 😁

Our priority remains providing consistent, high-quality care for your pets, and we’re committed to maintaining continuity as much as possible

Thank you for your continued trust and support during this transition ☺️

A fond farewell to Zosia as she retires after 10 wonderful years at The Lodge 🐾

Zosia has been such an important part of our team, and we are incredibly grateful for the dedication, care, and kindness she has shown to both our patients and their owners over the years. Since Covid, she has truly held the fort at our branch practice, and we cannot thank her enough for her hard work and commitment during that time 💪🏼

To celebrate, we enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea together — a small token of our appreciation for everything she has given to the practice 🌷

Zosia, we will miss you dearly, but we wish you a very happy, relaxing, and well-deserved retirement. Thank you for everything 💚

Oslo’s story 🦮💛

9 weeks ago, lovely Oslo underwent cruciate surgery (TPLO) here at the practice, and we’re so pleased to share his fantastic progress! 🤩

Following his operation, Oslo’s owners have done an amazing job sticking closely to the recovery plan set out by our visiting orthopaedic surgeon, Gareth. With a gradual increase in exercise and careful monitoring every step of the way, Oslo is now almost back to racing around the fields with his brother again! 🦮💨

💡 What is cruciate disease?

Cruciate disease affects the ligament in a dog’s knee (stifle joint) and is a very common cause of lameness. It’s most often due to gradual degeneration of the ligament over time, but factors such as obesity and genetics can also play a role. In some cases, it can occur suddenly due to acute trauma.

🔧 How is it treated?

TPLO (Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy) is just one of the ways a torn cruciate ligament can be repaired, it stabilises the knee joint to allow it to function properly again.
Recovery is crucial and typically involves 10–12 weeks of strict rest, followed by a controlled return to exercise 🏃🏽‍♀️

We’re so proud of Oslo and his dedicated owners for their commitment to his recovery—it really makes all the difference! 💙
