⭐ National Veterinary Receptionist Week ⭐
This week we recognise and appreciate the role of veterinary receptionists.

They do an amazing job, they are the first hellos, last goodbyes and the voices when you call into the practice.

They juggle many tasks from booking appointments, answer and make calls, manage emails, take payments, update patient records, welcome clients and their pets, keep the waiting area clean and much more.

We would like to say a big thank you to our reception team for all your hard work 🤩🩶

Let’s talk Pyometra 🐾

Pyometra is a potentially life-threatening infection of the uterus which can affect unneutered female dogs.

Pyometra can also affect female cats, cattle, horses, goats, sheep, pigs, rabbits, hamsters, ferrets, rats, and guinea pigs 🐹 🐀🐖🐑🐐🐎🐰🐄

Some symptoms of Pyometra can be:
Vaginal discharge
Lethargy
Poor appetite
Increase thirst and urination
Distended or painful belly
Vomiting
Fever
Pale gums
Weakness or collapse

Pyometra can be prevented by a routine surgical spay procedure by a veterinary surgeon.

If you would like to discuss booking in your female in for a spay then please do call us on 📞 01216101398

The importance of heart scanning

Mabel’s story:
Our student nurse Jordan brought her puppy Mabel into us for a pre neutering health check with head vet Klaudia, upon listening to Mabel’s heart Klaudia had concerns of there being a heart murmur present. Klaudia advised Jordan a heart scan would be the most appropriate action for Mabel, and advised to put neutering on hold.

Luckily Klaudia is completing a cardiology certificate and was able to scan Mabel’s heart, once scanned Klaudia had concerns of Mabel having a heart condition called Patent Ductus Arteriosus and advised referral would be the best course of action.

Mabel was referred to Cardiology at Blaise Veterinary Referrals and was assessed and scanned there, which confirmed Mabel had PDA (a life limiting condition without being fixed) and surgical intervention was needed.

Mabel went in for her surgery this week and her PDA was successfully repaired, but unfortunately little Mabel didn’t make it due to a post operative complication.

Without being scanned we would not have known the issue Mabel had with her heart. If you would like to book in for heart scanning which is currently available at an offer price whilst Klaudia completes her training, please contact the practice on 01216101398 and one of our team can schedule you an appointment 🐾

Our team would like to express our condolences to Jordan and her family for the sad loss of little Mabel, she was a very much loved member of the Pet House Vets Family 🐾 🌈 💜
