🚗🐶 Why Every Dog Should Learn to Use a Car Ramp -

We all love taking our dogs on adventures, but getting in and out of the car can quietly take a toll on their bodies.
Teaching your dog to use a car ramp early in life is one of the best long-term health investments you can make.

🐾 Start in Puppyhood

Even though puppies are full of energy, their joints and growth plates are still developing. Jumping in and out of cars puts unnecessary stress on those growing bodies, which can contribute to long-term joint problems. Getting your puppy comfortable with a ramp early builds a habit that sticks for life.

Also, our backs age! That small puppy will be a heavier dog later in life so not only will a ramp look after their joints, it will help ours too!!

🐾The benefits of a raised food bowl 🐾

✨ 1. Better Posture, Less Strain
When pets eat from floor-level bowls, they must bend their necks and spine downward. Over time, this posture can put stress on their neck and shoulders - especially for larger breeds, senior pets, or those with arthritis.

🦴 2. Easier on Joints & Muscles
Just like humans, pets feel the effects of repetitive movements and awkward angles. Constantly stretching down can be tough on aging joints or sore muscles.

🐶 3. Supports Better Digestion
A more level eating position helps food move smoothly from the mouth to the stomach. This can aid digestion and reduce issues like gulping air or bloating.

💡 Tip: Choose a height that allows your pet to eat with their head and neck in a neutral, relaxed position — not tilted up or down.

Emma Freeman has been caring for animals since 1999 and qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 2015.

With over 15 years of hands-on experience in the veterinary nursing field including time spent as a Head Nurse she brings a wealth of knowledge, empathy, and dedication to every animal she works with.

Her passion for pet rehabilitation led her to complete a Foundation Course in Western Veterinary Acupuncture in Scotland in March 2020.

She is also a proud member of the International Association of Animal Hospice and Palliative Care, reflecting her commitment to providing the very best support for pets throughout every stage of life.

Since joining Holistic Pet NI in June 2022, Emma has become a valued part of the team, expanding her expertise in laser therapy, acupuncture, and hydrotherapy.

She has recognised the growing need for compassionate Pet Palliative Care. She understands how upsetting it can be to learn that a beloved pet has an incurable condition or illness. Her goal is to help owners navigate this difficult time with kindness and understanding — offering advice, comfort, and practical support to improve quality of life, ease discomfort, and minimise suffering.
