After today's one-to-one session, Brodhie was ready for a well-earned rest!

Over the last 8 weeks, Brodhie has made significant progress, moving from learning the foundations to developing more advanced skills. It's been fantastic to see his confidence and understanding grow.

Today, we focused on an important household skill: learning that kitchen surfaces are off-limits.

By rewarding the behaviours we want to see and providing clear, consistent guidance, we're helping Brodhie make better choices around the home.

Every session builds on the last, and Brodhie's progress is a brilliant reminder of what patience, consistency and positive reinforcement can achieve.

Fireworks season is here – let's help our dogs feel safe.

As we approach Bonfire Night on Thursday 5th November, many of us will be enjoying fireworks, sparklers and celebrations. However, for many dogs, the loud bangs and bright flashes can be frightening and overwhelming.

Diwali, the Festival of Lights, also falls on Sunday 8th November 2026, with the five day festival running from Friday 6th to Tuesday 10th November. Fireworks may be heard throughout this period and beyond.

At Pup Pups Dog Training Academy, we want to help you support your dogs through this challenging time.

Helping Max feel calmer around other dogs

Max can become overwhelmed when he sees other dogs, often wanting to pull his dad towards them. Our goal was to help Max feel more comfortable and make better choices when faced with these distractions.

During today's session, we:

- Introduced Max to a new behaviour to help him navigate exciting situations.
- Gave him time and space to process what was happening around him.
- Marked and rewarded the behaviours we wanted to see more of, building positive associations and confidence.

Training isn't about suppressing a dog's emotions. It's about helping them feel safe, learn new skills and make better choices at their own pace.

Helping Ernie feel comfortable with grooming again

Ernie has developed a fear of the grooming brush. Whenever he sees it, he runs away, and what should be a simple grooming session quickly turns into a game of chase!

Today, we started rebuilding Ernie’s confidence by reintroducing the brush through counter-conditioning. Rather than forcing him to tolerate grooming, we began changing how he feels about the brush, helping him associate it with positive experiences.

As a Cockerpoo, Ernie’s coat can mat easily, so regular grooming is essential, particularly as we head into the autumn and winter months.

By taking things slowly, working at Ernie’s pace and rewarding calm behaviour, we can help make grooming a more positive experience for both Ernie and his pawrents.

The goal isn't just to get the brush through his coat. It's to help Ernie feel safe and comfortable throughout the process.

Puppy Foundation – Session 2!

Our newest puppy cohort was back for their second session, and this week we focused on one of the most important life skills: impulse control!

From learning to stay to resisting distractions and making better choices, our puppies are discovering that calm behaviour and self-control are rewarding.

These foundations help puppies develop into confident, well mannered dogs who can navigate the world around them.

Well done to all our puppies and their pawrents for another fantastic session! Keep up the great work at home. 🐶

🎃 TRICK OR TREAT? LET’S MAKE IT A TREAT FOR YOUR DOG! 👻🐾

Halloween can be full of spooky surprises for our dogs. Strange costumes, doorbells ringing, excited trick-or-treaters and unfamiliar noises can all feel a little overwhelming.

At Pup Pups Dog Training Academy, we believe every dog deserves to feel safe, confident and understood; even when the world gets a little spooky!

🎃 Our Halloween tips for pawrents:

🐾 Create a safe space – Give your dog somewhere quiet to relax away from the Halloween hustle and bustle.

🍬 Keep treats out of reach – Chocolate and sweets can be dangerous for dogs, so make sure Halloween goodies are safely stored away.

🚪 Manage the doorbell – Repeated knocks and visitors can be stressful. Set your dog up for success with a comfortable space away from the front door.

👻 Don't force interactions – Costumes, masks and spooky decorations can be confusing. Let your dog observe from a distance and reward calm behaviour.

🦇 Reward the good stuff – Whether it's settling on their bed, checking in with you or calmly watching the world go by, reward the behaviours you want to see more often.

Remember, your dog doesn't need to join in with every Halloween activity. Sometimes, the best treat is a quiet evening, a few tasty rewards and time with their favourite human!

A huge well done to our latest Puppy Foundation graduates!

Last night, our wonderful puppies completed their Foundation Course, and what a fantastic group they have been!

Over the course, they've been developing essential life skills, building confidence, learning to focus around distractions and strengthening that all-important bond with their pawrents.

Remember, training doesn't stop when the course finishes. This is just the beginning of a lifetime of learning together!
