A fascinating dive last night by the kind and generous Shelley Doxey of Holistic Veterinary Care into Western herbal medicine formulations and the differences between these and TCM, how acupuncture works on acute and chronic pain and other conditions, and an update on titre testing and choices of the method of blood draws.

Shelley received lots of interesting questions and great feedback from her talk. It was amazing to see the support she has from long-standing clients of hers attending and lovely to hear that pet professionals who attended will look to refer clients to her.

Thank you, Shelley, for sharing a small part of your vast expertise and insight into these areas of holistic care.

Busy morning, snuck into the practice to make up bespoke herbal medicine for some of my patients to get out in the post tomorrow. Then back home to report some Vaccicheck titre test results and now getting ready for my afternoon shift as an online triage vet for an emergency out of hours veterinary service

My first Calendula flower of the year, I love the way it closes up overnight. Such a beautiful medicinal herb with a vast range of uses including topically to soothe inflamed skin and as mouthwash and eyewash and internally for stomach ulcers, gastrointestinal infections and urinary infections. Today was a sad day, a special patient said goodbye to her family and passed onto her next adventure. I was honoured to be with them and to able to make her transition as peaceful and respectful as possible. I gave my girl an extra special squeeze and of course a biscuit when I got home and told her how awesome she is. I often feel that animals understand the circle of life and their part in the universe so clearly but all the noise in our world prevents us from doing the same. 🕊

Really good to see evidence for Vitamin D interacting with gut bacteria and having positive effects on immunity and cancer risks

🧫 Specialist pathologist researchers from the RVC– working alongside The Francis Crick Institute (FCI) and other partners – have discovered that a diet high in vitamin D encourages the growth of a type of gut bacteria which improves immunity to cancer. These findings published in Science, the world´s leading multidisciplinary scientific journal, indicate a connection between vitamin D and the immune system, suggesting how increased levels of vitamin D could also play a crucial role in cancer immunity and immunotherapy success in humans.
