🐰 Rabbit Awareness Week – Day 4 🐰

Feeding isn’t just about nutrition - it’s also a great opportunity for enrichment.

Scatter feeding, forage toys and hay-based enrichment can encourage natural behaviours and help keep curious minds occupied.

After all, finding food is half the fun! 🌿🐇

Firstly, thank you to everyone who checked in after yesterday. We’re pleased to report that Pudding is doing much better today and is coping well 💚🐇

Yesterday was a bit of a worry, but she’s currently stretched out, staying cool and making it very clear that any unnecessary movement is absolutely out of the question.

We hope all of your bunnies and piggies are managing okay in this heat too. Please keep a close eye out for signs of heat stress, make sure they have plenty of shade, fresh water and cool places to relax. Their comfort comes first - the housework can wait! ☀️ 🐇🐹

On a more exciting note… our digging boxes are BACK IN STOCK! 🎉

If you haven’t tried one before, they’re brilliant for natural enrichment and can be especially useful during hot weather. Fill them with slightly damp untreated soil (Wickes Topsoil works really well), and many rabbits love digging, lounging and even flopping in the cool earth 🌱

🥺We know we keep banging on about keeping rabbits cool during this heatwave, but today reminded us exactly why.

This evening, one of our own rabbits (our helicopter ears bun Pudding) became overwhelmed by the heat. She was breathing heavily, trembling and clearly struggling despite all the precautions we had already put in place.

Seeing one of your rabbits in distress is horrible. Your heart sinks instantly.

We brought her straight inside, got her settled on a cooling mat in the air conditioning and thankfully she’s doing much better now. But it was a stark reminder that heat can become dangerous incredibly quickly ‼️

As rabbit owners, we sometimes convince ourselves that they’ll be okay because they’re eating, lying in the shade or they’ve coped with warm weather before. The reality is that rabbits are extremely vulnerable to heat and things can change in a matter of minutes.

Please keep a close eye on your bunnies and piggies over the next few days. If you notice:
⚠️ Rapid or heavy breathing
⚠️ Trembling or weakness
⚠️ Lethargy
⚠️ Warmer than normal ears
⚠️ Stretching out and struggling to get comfortable
⚠️ Loss of appetite

Don’t wait to act.

We aren’t sharing this for sympathy. We’re sharing it because if it can happen to one of our rabbits, despite us knowing the risks and taking every precaution we can, it can happen to any rabbit.

So yes, we’ll keep banging on about frozen bottles, cooling mats, shade, airflow and checking on them constantly. Because we’d much rather sound like a broken record than see another rabbit suffer in this heat.

🐰 Rabbit Awareness Week – Day 3 🐰

We often talk about food, but water is just as important💧

Fresh, clean water should always be available and checked daily.

Most rabbits prefer bowls, some prefer bottles, but a bowl is the most natural way a rabbit can drink 💧

However your rabbit drinks, staying hydrated is an essential part of keeping them healthy.

🥵☀️ A little update on how we’re handling orders during this mini heatwave ☀️🥵

Our rabbits are currently running the household and they’ve made it very clear that keeping them cool comes before absolutely everything else 🐇👑

To make sure we’re home during the hottest parts of the day, we’re now heading into Hoppy Pets at 7am each morning to pack and dispatch orders before temperatures start climbing.

📦 Orders are still going out as normal, but if you’re planning to order, please try to do so either the evening before or before 11am. Orders placed after this may be dispatched the following morning instead.

Once we’ve finished packing, it’s straight back home to monitor our own rabbits, change frozen bottles, refresh water bowls, hand out cooling treats and generally provide round-the-clock bunny concierge services 🧊 🌿

A reminder to all rabbit and guinea pig owners during this hot weather:

☀️ Keep them out of direct sunlight
💧 Make sure fresh water is always available
🧊 Provide cooling options such as cool pods, tiles or frozen bottles wrapped in towels
🥬 Offer water rich greens as an extra way to help with hydration
👀 Keep an eye out for signs of heat stress, including lethargy, rapid breathing, drooling or weakness

The shop can wait. The fluffballs cannot.

Different textures, smells and flavours help make mealtimes more interesting and encourage natural foraging behaviours.

A colourful bowl doesn’t just look good - it helps keep life interesting for your bunny too! 💚

☀️ A quick Hoppy Pets update ☀️

Just a reminder that our shop remains closed this week due to the exceptionally high temperatures.

We had planned to head into the shop this morning to process online orders, but after careful consideration we’ve decided not to. With nobody else at home today, our rabbits would be left without the extra monitoring and care they need during this heatwave.

As many of you know, our animals have always been at the heart of everything we do. Their welfare comes first and we simply aren’t willing to risk them suffering unnecessarily in these extreme conditions.

We’re very fortunate that someone will be home tomorrow, which means we’ll be able to safely head in and get all outstanding online orders packed and dispatched then.

We know delays are frustrating and we’re incredibly grateful for your patience and understanding. Small businesses often have to make difficult decisions, but for us this one was easy - our rabbits will always be our priority 💚🐇

🐰 Rabbit Awareness Week – Day 1 🐰

This year’s theme is Feeding Bunnies Better, and we’re starting with the most important food of all…

🌾 HAY 🌾

Hay should make up around 85-90% of a rabbit’s diet and helps support both digestive and dental health.

If your rabbit could choose between a fancy meal and an endless pile of fresh hay, they should choose the hay… whether they actually would is another matter! 😆

Today, why not offer a fresh pile of hay in a new location, a new hay feeder or add a bit of forage and see what your bunny thinks?

A quick update regarding our shop opening this week.

Due to the exceptionally high temperatures 🌡️ and red weather warning 🚨 forecast this week, we have made the difficult decision not to open the shop.

As many of you know, our unit gets extremely hot during warm weather. Even with fans running, windows open and the shutter up, temperatures inside become uncomfortable for both us and any customers visiting 🥵

We also have our own rabbits at home 🐇 who need extra care and monitoring during the heat. Keeping them cool, hydrated and safe has to be our priority and unfortunately that isn’t possible if we’re away from home all day 🧊 💧

Our online shop remains open as normal 💻📦and we’ll continue to process orders as quickly as we can around rabbit cooling duties! We like to get in super early before it gets unbearable.

Thank you for your understanding. We hope everyone stays safe, keeps cool and gives their bunnies an extra frozen bottle or cool spot to relax this week 💚🐇
