When we received Jennifer’s application to become a foster parent back in 2024, we were SO excited to see that she was interested in fostering any kind of animal that we could give her, and we certainly took her up on that offer!

In only two years, Jennifer and her family have fostered 30+ animals of almost every variety that we have to offer: cats, kittens, dogs, puppies, rabbits, guinea pigs—including bottle babies, protective custody animals, and perhaps the most notable thus far: a nursing mother dog with seven puppies! We called Jennifer and crossed our fingers when we asked her if she could potentially take x8 dogs into her home; to our joy and surprise, she accepted them with excitement—perhaps a touch of fear—and did an amazing job caring for that large family!

This extraordinary amount of work and energy put towards fostering is not doable on one’s own, however—fostering is a family-wide effort in the Leeck household, and over the years, we have had the delight of meeting them all. We would like to extend our gratitude to every member of the Leeck family, from partner Chris participating in many drop-offs and pickups, and daughter Sophie for getting involved with bottle-feeding and general animal care. The family is inspired to foster by their deep-rooted love for animals and knowing that they can make a direct difference in an animal’s life, even if only temporary; they would keep them all if possible!

We are so lucky to have these lovely folks; thank you all for your ongoing support and care!

Sweet Seraphina needs a special home to grow in. This 3 month old is as resilient as they come - after a rough beginning where she lost some of her sight and hearing, she remains brave and so, so happy. She loves being with people, and had such a fun time in foster with her dog siblings. 

Seraphina is a true joy to spend time with, and reminds us all what rescue is about. She's been working with our behaviour team learning special cues for sit and leave it, and is proving she is one smart cookie.

She's just asking for a chance to win over your heart...come and meet her this weekend!

Dusty is going as The Flash this year. Read about how he's doing, and don't forget your pet's reflective gear when you're out in the dark!!!

"After losing our best friend of 9 years, George, we came across Dusty at the WHS. He is an older boy with health issues. He was in need of a forever home and we were in need of a new friend.

So he came to live with his new Papa and Mom. It's been a bit over two months and everyone is settling in very well. Dusty loves meeting all the new people in the neighbourhood. He thinks people exist for the sole purpose of patting him.

Dusty enjoys living in the country. He loves going for multiple walks a day. Because he is black he wears his safety vest and lighted collars on evening walks. Neighbours enjoy seeing what colour light he will be wearing each night.

Dusty is enjoying his best life and living his dream retirement. He is much loved.

Meet our Silver Kings: Shermin (1yr) & Biggie (8yrs). Both boys have been nervous in shelter over the last month but with a bit of time and patience are growing to trust their fav people.

For National Cat Day (and also every other day of the year) each adoption comes with a pet insurance trial from Petsecure Pet Health Insurance, so you can get to know one another and settle in without the added stress of potential surprise medical bills off the hop!

A haunted house but it's actually just a cute time.

Okay, Douglas and Volt *were* a little spooked. Daisy and Harley were brave girls. ALL got very rewarded for their holiday spirit.

The only thing spooky about their day is they still haven't found their families.

Join our therapy dog team!
Our pups work hard to support our community helping kids in our See Spot Read Program, visiting local organizations to provide companionship and a good cuddle, and representing us at local events, and we're looking for new recruits.

Come down to 45 Hurst Way November 6 and have your pup assessed on the spot. We'll be signing people up from 1pm-3pm in the Joyce Gauthier Training Centre.

Today is Black Cat Day, and do we have a diva for you. Sweet, senior miss Pepper is just about the best little lady you could meet. She's independent but loves a snuggle, and wears her wisdom in the flecks of white hair on her face.
Her purr is soft and low, and she really just wants a lap to curl up in before the snow falls. Will you be her fam for her golden years?

October 27 is a meaningful day for us to pay tribute to our beloved pets who have passed on. In Mexican culture Día de Mu***os is a sacred celebration of remembrance - here are some ways you can honour and welcome back the best friends who once filled our lives with love, laughter, and comfort:
▪️Candles to light their way home.
▪️Marigolds (cempasúchil), whose bright colour and scent are said to guide spirits back.
▪️Water to refresh them after their long journey.
▪️Pan de mu**to, a symbolic bread often shared on ofrendas for all visiting spirits.
🧡Write a note or letter to your pet, share a memory, or play a sound they loved.

Many of these traditions are lovingly kept alive by Mexican and Mexican-Canadian communities today. No matter if your pet was by your side for months or many years, their love leaves a lasting imprint on your heart.
