Meet Oreo, a 2-year-old domestic shorthair who beat the odds while recovering from FIP treatment.

This brave little man came to us last April feeling unwell. After thorough testing by our amazing team, Oreo was diagnosed with FIP.

Following months of treatment, Oreo is now back to his happy, healthy self. Well done, Oreo! 🐾❤️

What is FIP ?

FIP stands for feline infectious peritonitis. It’s a serious disease in cats caused by a mutation of feline coronavirus (FCoV) within the cat’s body.
A few key points:

🦠 Feline coronavirus is common, especially where many cats live together, and most infected cats don't develop FIP.

⚠️ FIP occurs when the virus mutates and triggers a severe inflammatory response.

🐱 It can affect cats of any age but is more common in younger cats.

There are different forms, including wet (fluid buildup), dry (organ inflammation), and sometimes ocular or neurological forms.

💊 The outlook has changed dramatically. Antiviral treatments such as GS-441524 have made FIP treatable, whereas it was once considered almost invariably fatal.

So in Oreo's case, being described as having "beat the odds" reflects how significant his recovery from FIP was. ❤️🐾
