3 things I don’t recommend as a vet and why they matter:

1️⃣ Treating dementia before addressing chronic pain. 2️⃣ Skipping sedation prior to humane euthanasia: Sedation makes euthanasia more peaceful for patients and families.
3️⃣ Not communicating order of importance for meds: Owners need to know what to prioritize.

The details matter in geriatric medicine. Even the smallest changes can have big impacts on patient care and outcomes.

👉 What’s one small change you’ve seen make a big difference for your patients?

As dogs live longer, it can be challenging for veterinary practioners to stay ahead of aging-associated disease. We're excited to be a part of this ongoing conversation to help shift from reactive treatment to proactive, preventative care and improve the quality of life and clinical outcomes for your senior patients.

Our co-founder, Dr. Monica Tarantino (Senior Dogs | Dr. Monica Tarantino 🐶😻 Veterinarian) will be participating in VetFolio's Level Up: Senior Wellness CE program on June 16th to discuss proactive medicine for aging dogs and help you build structured, high-impact senior wellness programs that elevate patient care and strengthen client bonds — with support from Freshpet.

This isn't a lecture you're going to want to miss.

Why did we start Senior Dog Veterinary Society?

Because senior pets deserve more than the standard approach.

And because there are vets and teams out there who want to do this differently… they just haven’t been shown how yet.

I remember when I started leaning into senior dogs more openly.
Talking about it. Building it into our practice.

It didn’t take long before our whole team cared about it the same way. It became part of how we practiced.

Then something interesting happened.
People started finding us… and driving an hour or more just to be seen.

Not because we loved senior dogs more.
But because we approached them differently.

That’s the shift.

If you want to be the vet or team people seek out for their senior dogs, we’ll show you how.
