Sharing our city with wildlife is part of life in Vancouver — but your pet’s safety always comes first 🐾

With coyote activity increasing during spring and early summer, we often see a rise in pet-related incidents. Coyotes may be more territorial while protecting their pups.

Here are a few ways to help keep your pet safe:
• Always keep dogs on leash, especially in parks and green spaces
• Avoid letting pets roam unattended, even in fenced yards
• Walk with awareness — limit outings during dawn and dusk
• Pick up food sources that may attract wildlife (including pet food and waste)
• If you encounter a coyote, stay calm, keep your pet close, and slowly create distance

Even cautious pets can be vulnerable in these situations. If your pet has had any interaction with a coyote — visible injury or not — we recommend a veterinary check to ensure there are no hidden wounds or risks of infection.

Your vigilance plays a big role in preventing emergencies.

- - 🩺 Case of the Week: Nano’s Big Day!

Say hello to Nano, the long-haired dachshund puppy who came to us one testicle short of a full set. Our team confirmed he was a cryptorchid, meaning a testicle didn’t quite make the journey south — so we stepped in to help nature along.

His surgery went flawlessly, and Nano woke up ready for cuddles, snacks, and compliments (which he got plenty of). He’s recovering perfectly and has officially stolen every heart in the hospital.

We’re so proud of Nano — now fully “streamlined” and living his best puppy life. 🐶

TRIGGER WARNING** Please keep in mind that there is a post with organs!

🎉🐾 RVT Appreciation Spotlight: Sindy! 🐾🎉

Today, we’re shining a spotlight on Sindy, one of our amazing Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVT)! 🌟

Sindy’s journey into veterinary medicine began at Douglas College, where she first studied to become a Veterinary Office Assistant. After three years of working as a receptionist, learning the ins and outs of clinic life, her passion for animals led her back to Douglas College to pursue her dream of becoming a Vet Tech. In August of last year, Sindy proudly earned her title as an RVT, and we couldn't be more proud of her!

Sindy’s love for animals doesn’t stop at work—she even has a rescue pigeon named Glare Glare 🕊️. When she’s not taking exceptional care of our furry (and feathered!) friends, Sindy enjoys getting creative with crafting, diving into the world of video and board games, and hitting the court to play some volleyball! 🏐✨

Thank you, Sindy, for your dedication, passion, and love for animals. Your hard work and positive spirit make a world of difference to our team and every pet you care for. 💙🐶🐱

Let’s all give Sindy a round of applause for being an incredible RVT and an all-around wonderful person! 👏👏👏
