As we wrap up our Thanksgiving weekend, we are EXTRA thankful - cause we now have both of the Ruckle Park kittens in our care.

In just two days, we networked with park staff (thanks to Jackie who brought the second kitten all the way up to us!), and neighbourhood residents (thanks to Abey who checked the traps last night and at 6 am today!)

These kittens are very scared but appear to be in fine shape (they’ve probably had a lot of hot dog and burger bits over the past couple of months).

We will let them settle out for a couple of days and then they will be seen by our Salt Spring vet Dr Lex.

Thanks to everyone who helped get these two kittens safely into care. We are continuing the hunt for the other 2 kittens and their mom! Stay tuned!

Happy CAT-urday from SUNFLOWER - one of the mom cats who came into our care earlier this summer through our north SSI black cat colony work.

Sunflower was trapped in early July together with her two kittens (recently adopted Aster and Dahlia). Sunflower was SUCH a good mom - her kittens were so tiny when they came into our care. And Sunflower is just a big kitten herself. We are SO thankful that she got the care she needed so she could take care of her babies.

Sunflower also mothered two other kittens who were found nearby without a mom - these are kittens 'Hundy' & 'Hundy plus one' (these guys will come available for adoption later in October.

Sunflower LOVES to play and is a VERY gentle young cat. She will take time to settle into her new home, for sure. But she is SUCH a love.

Sunflower has been spayed, vaccinated (FVRCP plus rabies), treated for fleas and parasites, microchipped, and screened for FIV / FeLV (negative results).

If you have room in your heart and your home, perhaps Sunflower can join YOUR family? She would make such a lovely family pet with a little time and patience.

As we head into the Thanksgiving weekend, we wanted to take a moment to THANK and CONGRATULATE our adopters over the past few days. We are SO THRILLED that all 3 of these kittens were adopted by families right here on Salt Spring.

AND all three of these adoptive families met their kittens at Foxglove's 50th Anniversary party. ISN'T OUR COMMUNITY FABULOUS??!??

Congratulations to Marion and her husband on the adoption of sweet kitten Jazz (apple). Congratulations to Alia, CJ, Oliver and Arlo on their adoption of Ambrosia (apple). And congratulations to Jane (and her two kitties) on their adoption of our sweet Franklyn. (Dory (Jane's younger cat) is excited about her new playmate!)

We are so grateful to everyone who helps to keep this rescue going - our adopters, our fosters, our volunteers, our donors, and our community partners. Thanks to our amazing foster mom Anne - who fostered the Apple kittens (they were born at her house!).

Stay tuned for information about our ANNUAL CHAMPION APPRECIATION PARTY at Oystercatcher - we are just finalizing the date. We hope to see all of our COMMUNITY PARTNERS at the party.

Our 'Shades of Autumn' litter is having A BLAST at Mary's house. Mary has an AWESOME dedicated room for fostering - completely set up for KITTEN FUN!

We now have 5 kittens available from this litter (just shy of 4 months old):
Umber and Burgundy (M) - DSH
Copper and Bronze (F) - DSH
Ochre - (F) - DMH

These are SUPERB kittens - so well-socialized, very fun, all very easy to handle. They would make such lovely family pets. The purring sound is DEAFENING when you walk into Mary's foster room!

All kittens are spayed / neutered, vaccinated (FVRCP 1st and 2nd plus rabies), treated for fleas and parasites, microchipped and screened for FIV / FeLV.

October is BLACK CAT APPRECIATION MONTH. Our kitten adoption fees are now $300 plus PST (or a pair for $600 plus PST).

Did you know that OCTOBER is BLACK CAT APPRECIATION (AWARENESS) MONTH? We have been SO busy working on the black cat colony that somehow we missed the memo!

Thankfully, one of our black cats in care (it was 'Little Mouse') let us know about it. Phew! Thanks Little Mouse!

We currently have A LOT of black cats and kittens in foster care. Sadly, black cats are often overlooked and not chosen for adoption. Many people want "prettier" or "fancier" cats. There are still superstitions about black cats that many people can't get past....it's just so sad for the black cats.

Pictured below are Gus (DMH) and Ben (DSH). These two handsome older kittens were trapped earlier this summer as part of our work with the north SSI black cat colony. Lucky for them, they landed in foster with Shelby and her family. These two shy boys have BLOSSOMED in their care. The cats are used to kids, a large (and very friendly) dog, video games and TV. They are very well-socialized older kittens!

To help encourage people to adopt our black cats and kittens, we are going to offer special reduced adoption fees for our black cats and kittens for the rest of October! Our ADULT BLACK CAT adoption fees will be reduced to $200 (plus PST) or $300 (plus PST) for a pair of adults. Our KITTEN BLACK CAT adoption fees will be reduced to $300 (plus PST) or $600 (plus PST) for a pair of kittens. All applicants must follow our regular adoption procedures (application, reference checks, home check) prior to adopting.

We had a great question emailed to us yesterday: “do you guys have just kittens or do you have adult cats for adoption too?”

Fair question - as it seems that all we have been promoting is KITTENS KITTENS KITTENS!!!!

We DO have LOTS of adult cats in our foster network - about 15 of them! The trapped adult cats take longer to settle in their foster homes and longer to work (socialize). Most of the adults in our foster homes are adults from the north SSI black cat colony. They are beautiful and gentle. Once they know you, they blossom into wonderful and playful kitties.

Tails (pictured below) is currently in foster-to-adopt placement in Victoria. We ALWAYS place our adult cats for a month-long foster to adopt - just to be sure that the cat settles PURRfectly.

Thanks so much to Laura and Nik for settling Tails in so well. He’s a lucky kitty!

We have had a lot of kittens adopted recently. Thank you so much to the adopters of our Berry kittens, our Apple kittens and our first few Shades of Fall kittens to go home.
