Introducing Pumpkin, Spice & Latte - three great 3 1/2 month old male kittens currently looking for their FURever homes.

Pumpkin is clearly the leader of the pack. He's confident and always the first to approach. Spice is next - just slightly more reserved than Pumpkin. Latte is an observer and follower. He watches the other two and then makes his move.

These three started off in foster with Shelby and her family - for kid and dog exposure. Now they are at Mary's place - for kitten finishing school.

The kittens are fully vetted (neutered, vaccinated (FVRCP 1st and 2nd plus rabies), treated for fleas and parasites, microchipped, and screened for FIV / FeLV (negative results).

The boys will be making their public debut tomorrow at the Foxglove Christmas open house event. Please come and say hello!

(We always try to bring the mom cat into care as well - especially if she is in an area where she will not have ongoing care and monitoring. Mom cat "Sweet Potato" is just a kitten herself and is doing really well in care. She's just not ready to make her debut yet....stay tuned!)

Our 2025 Matching Fundraiser continues until the end of December. Thank you so much to everyone who has already contributed to the campaign. We are currently at approx 35% of our goal of $14,000. Please consider supporting us this December so we can continue our work helping Salt Spring's cats and kittens in 2026. Please enjoy the story of Mango and help us to assist more cats like him in 2026!

***************************************************************

One of our poster cats for the 2025 campaign is adorable Mango. His story highlights one of the most challenging medical cases we have dealt with this year. We could not have done this work without your support. Here's Mango's story.....so far:

Mango was surrendered to our rescue in March of this year. He had been found stray and was brought to us. Emaciated and sick, Mango was unable to walk and could barely stand due to a horrendous infection in his right ear. We had many trips to Elk Lake Veterinary Hospital in the coming weeks as we tried to get Mango's ear infection under control. Mango required several sedations for exams and swabs. We had many cultures done which were necessary to ensure that we eliminated the infection.

Ultimately, we were unable to resolve the infection due to a suspected problem in his middle ear - polyps. Unless we surgically investigated and removed the polyps, the infections would just continue to recur. We needed to do major surgery: a TECA-BO: Total Ear Canal Ablation and Bulla Osteotomy. A cute name for a tedious and expensive procedure.

We are so grateful to the team at Elk Lake Veterinary Hospital, particularly Drs. Audrey Remedios and Heidi Clouse, for the outstanding care provided to Mango.

One can only imagine Mango's existence and ultimate end, had he not found his way to us.

Mango is just 2-3 years old and he now has his WHOLE LIFE ahead of him. He is sweet, playful and so gentle - even with all of the medical treatments he has received over the past 9 months. We look forward to finding Mango a PURRfect home in the weeks to come.

Enjoy these pics of our Mango and please consider contributing to our year-end campaign. It truly takes a village - and we are so grateful for the support we receive from our community.

We LOVE receiving updates from our adopters. Boba went home about a month ago to his new home on Vancouver Island. His adopters, Moretta, Colin and Oliver REALLY wanted a friendly cat that would get on well with their existing cat Buttons.

We had a sense that Boba would do well with another cat given his laid back PURRsonality. We are just thrilled to hear how well the two kitties are getting along. Moretta provided the following update:

"Boba is doing really well and is a great companion for us and for Buttons. He is cuddly and playful in turns....just what we needed."

Thanks so much for taking the time to send this note and all of these great pics. We wish you a wonderful holiday season!

We received updates from a couple of adopters yesterday and thought that we would like to share. Receiving messages like these is what fuels us to keep going in this work - which is often so heartbreaking and exhausting.

Messages like this show us why we do what we do.
Thank you so much for keeping in touch!

From Dona, who adopted Mudge in February 2025:

"Mudge is affectionate, curious, playful, mischievous, delightful.....I could go on and on and on. Our vet said she is in perfect health with a lovely personality."

Remember Mudge was a feral mom trapped up at the top of Mt. Maxwell. She spent many months in foster and her adopters worked hard to settle her slowly and securely using one of our loaned crates. AND LOOK AT HER NOW!

From Liz, who adopted Cosmo (Mo) way back in AUGUST 2022 (over three years ago!):

"Just wanted to reach out and say that Mo is doing very well and busy snuggling with Syd. Just in case you're worried that Mo isn't living his best life. We love Mo so much."

WOW! What a great life he has!

Did you adopt from us sometime over the past 4 1/2 years? Please send us an update pics and notes - or comment below!

Sweet Baby Sophie got some extra love this am from Julia @ the Mayne island Vet Clinic. Sophie was just trapped two days ago thanks to Virginia - a colony caretaker who reached out when she saw a new kitten in the colony.

Although we have worked hard over the last two years to get all cats in this particular colony spayed / neutered, we still have two elusive females and one male to catch. Some of these adult cats are very trap savvy.

You might remember Douglas Fir - the kitten rescued from up the tree earlier this year. Little Sophie is his sister.

Thanks Virginia for your help getting this colony under control. We love our community partners!

FILLED! Thanks to Rachel!

TRANSPORT REQUEST -

This handsome guy just had a dental procedure at Elk Lake Veterinary Hospital today and needs a ride back to Salt Spring either tomorrow (Wednesday) or Thursday.

He will be in a hard carrier and is a very good traveller (not noisy).

Pick up would be from Elk Lake Veterinary Hospital - 4975 Patricia Bay Hwy (with the white fence and the lovely alpacas!).

If you might be able to give Oscar a lift back to Salt Spring on Wednesday or Thursday, please reach out to us or comment below.

Oscar is also looking for his FURever home - in case you want to get to know him on the ferry ride to Salt Spring. He's a good listener...and the sweetest guy EVER!

HUGE congratulations to the following kittens and cats who went off to their FURever homes over the past few days:

Penny - our sweet kitten Penny found her home with Ezra and Jayda and joins cat siblings Viv & Prim (formerly Shadow & Pretty Girl) in their wonderful home in Nanaimo

Bubbles - Bubbles took an exciting trip to North Van via Harbour Air (thanks for always transporting our kitties safely to the mainland!). Just LOOK at how much fun he's having in his new home!

Avocado & Selene - these guys have been in a foster-to-adopt placement for the past month. Their adoptions were just finalized yesterday. We are THRILLED to see both of these former colony cats placed in such a wonderful home right here on Salt Spring!

We wish you all a lifetime of happiness, and send HUGE thanks out to our amazing foster families who cared for all of these kitties. We couldn't do it without you!

We have LOTS more kitties still looking for their FURever homes - please reach out if you are looking for a new feline friend to join your family!

Welcome to December everyone! Today is the FIRST day of our FIFTH annual Matching Fundraising Campaign.

We are thrilled to announce that we have TWO matching donors for this year's campaign. One donor has pledged to match donations to $4,000, and the second has pledged to match up to $10,000!! This means that we could raise a total of $28,000 through this year's campaign!

We are SO grateful to all of our volunteers who helped us do so much over the past year. We have ZERO paid staff and ZERO RENT costs thanks to the generous support of our volunteers and our foster families.

This means that ALL funds raised go DIRECTLY to benefit the cats and kittens in our care - covering our food and veterinary costs.

Thanks to everyone who has supported us over the past FIVE YEARS! We truly could not have done it without you!
