Gunner ❤️

He’s settled in and loves his head massages 😂 we’ve started walks and slowly but surely he’s seeing that camp is safe. This week we look forward to trying to make a friend or two!

This is Gunner 🐾❤️

Gunner is a very typical Bully mix who is more Marshmellow than brawn and it’s getting him into trouble. This sweet guy thinks he’s supposed to “look after things” for his dad, which has resulted in Gunner displaying some concerning behaviours towards new people.

Gunner wanted to make sure his dad was extra safe, so when people would approach in certain environments, Gunner would “bluff” threaten them to make space. He’s also had some negative interactions with dogs that we will help him with.

Gunners family wants him to be able to join them every day for work and adventures, so Gunner has come to camp to overcome these challenges ❤️ He will spend the next several weeks building skills and confidence so he can put his best paw forward from now on.

I will always be a safe space for “Last Chance Dogs”. ❤️‍🩹💔

They’ve been to multiple trainers. They’ve been labelled aggressive, dangerous, or beyond help. Their families are exhausted, heartbroken, and often facing the impossible decision of whether their dog can safely stay in their home, or even worse, safely stay alive.

Those are the dogs that have always found their way to me 🙌

After evaluating well over 10,000 dogs throughout my career, I’ve only turned away five because their aggression was truly genetic. Trauma, fear, neglect, abuse, misunderstanding… those are different stories. Those are stories that can often be rewritten.

The truth is, most of these dogs weren’t born this way.

Most are products of experiences that unintentionally shaped how they see the world. Not because their families didn’t love them, but because none of us are taught how to communicate with another species. We aren’t taught how to build emotional resilience, confidence, or a relationship that makes a dog feel truly safe.

When families come to me, they’re rarely looking for someone to “fix” their dog. They’re looking for someone to help them understand what happened, and how to give their dog the skills and support they needed all along.

I don’t see monsters.

I see frightened dogs whose nervous systems have learned that the world isn’t safe. Dogs that deserve to be understood before they’re judged.

Being a home for these dogs has never been the easiest path. It can be emotionally exhausting, humbling, and sometimes incredibly difficult.

But watching a dog who was once out of options learn to trust again…

There aren’t many feelings that compare to that ❤️

Every dog in this video was somebody’s “last chance.”

For me, each and every one was worth trying for🐾

Who remembers this Beauty Queen?

Sky came for rehabilitation programming 2 years ago. Since being home she has continued to thrive ❤️

Sky is extra special because she is completely deaf, and was born that way. She had severe dog reactivity and needed a lot of self confidence when she first came to “camp”. I got her set up with a communication system, taught her obedience and social skills, sprinkle in some self confidence development and VOILA!

She has come a long way since then, and now she gets to live her best life everyday!

Sky is here for a short visit while her family is away. The first night was a little harder, getting back into the routine. But after that she remembered and settled back in ❤️
