This is Scrump! Scrump came to see us for his annual exam with vaccines and he was so scared of us😭 Instead of pushing through we all re-grouped.

We had Scrump return to us on a different day for a social visit. We decided to do our social visit outside as the waiting room was too busy for Scrump that day. Scrump did SO well! Sometimes anxiety and fear start even before the doctor comes in.

Our plan for Scrump was :
✔️ 1. His mom called from the car when they arrived and we only invited them in when the waiting room was clear of chaos.
✔️ 2. Scrump had fear free medications prior to his visit to prevent his anxiety to go into an all system overload.
✔️ 3. During his appointment he had a high value treat to distract and reward.

With these simple tweaks we were able to do a full physical exam and update all of Scrump's vaccines. At the end he was confidant enough to be silly and he even gave us his belly for rubs! We are SO proud of you Scrump! 🥹

Sometimes it is all about finding the little changes that work so your pet feels comfortable within our hospital! ♥️

Feel good Friday! Recently we met this handsome fella named Kane. Kane unfortunately had some pretty big vet visits as a young pup and (no fault to anyone) thought all vets were pretty scary. Kane's first visit with us he was scared to come in the door, struggled to get on the scale and when in an exam room he was so scared all he could do is bark his biggest bark. Seeing Kane was very stressed we immediately hit the brakes. Our goal with every patient is a long term lasting relationship, never short term 'get it done' one.

Our plan with Kane was simple :
1. Respect his body language and understand he is fearful, not a 'bad dog'.
2. Create trust through visits where we expect nothing from Kane other than to come in, have some treats and go.
3. Give Kane fear free medications prior to visits so his brain doesn't go into anxiety over load and he can process and learn

During Kane's 1st social visit he came in to reception, took some treats and then left.
During Kane's 2nd visit he came into reception (ran actually), got on the scale, had some treats and allowed for full body pets! He was actually excited to see us this time!
During Kane's 3rd visit he ran in, hit the scale, came into an exam room and we were able to complete a full exam (WOW!)

We are SO happy with Kane's progress. He is a young boy who will need vet care throughout his life, by taking our time it is a win for everyone.

Last week was Veterinarian Receptionist Week! ⭐️ (I know what you’re thinking, last week!?! Do you know how hard it is to get these girls to stop working for 1 second to take their picture!!) 😂

Reception is easily the most difficult job. They are the 1st person you call for literally everything. They are your first point of contact when you get a new pet, your pet isn’t feeling well, or you need guidance for next steps for care.

They celebrate you, they comfort you, they listen all while doing 15386.4 jobs at once. 🥰

Next time you see this trio, give them a thanks! Merrill, Selene, Heather and Stella thank you for all you do, without you the hospital would be on fire! 🙏

This is Bella, the Pomeranian who beat Leptospirosis! Leptospirosis is a bacteria that is spread commonly in wildlife urine. Leptospirosis survives best in warm, slow moving water especially after heavy rains or flooding. Bella can tell you that Leptospirosis makes pets very sick by causing severe kidney and liver damage. Bella needed aggressive ICU treatment, lab tests, medications and lots of TLC. Bella is a fighter, beating Leptospirosis is a hard thing to do!!

Our pets can contract Leptospirosis by:

💦 Drinking contaminated water (puddles, lakes, streams)
🩹 Irritated skin or cut comes in contact with bacteria (dog with a cut paw walks through infected water)

‼️Leptospirosis is zoonotic meaning it can transmit from pets to people, something we don’t like to fool around with! ‼️

Most importantly, we can protect our pets from Leptospirosis by vaccination!💉 With this being a wet year so far it is important to make sure your pet is up to date on their Leptospirosis vaccine. If you’re unsure of your pets current vaccine status give us a call! ☎️
