🐾 Blaze has an important message for pet owners!! 🐾

Blaze here travelled all the way from Cambridge - only to end up in the city of Oshawa as a stray!

Thankfully, when he arrived at the shelter, staff were able to scan his microchip and quickly access his owner’s information.

Blaze’s family was incredibly relieved to know that he was safe and just as shocked as we were that he had made it so far from home after being lost for only one week!

Stories like Blaze’s are a great reminder of how important it is to microchip your pets. You never know when a door might be left open or when a fence might fail. Having your pet microchipped helps ensure they can get home no matter how far they may travel.

We are so happy this adventurous boy is back where he belongs, safe and sound! 🐱

P.S. Don't forget about our Microchip Clinic at Pet Valu - Kendalwood in Whitby on June 14! 😉

We have a very special boy looking for his forever home!💛

Gerard is a 8 year old American Bulldog mix. He arrived at the shelter in January and has been in foster for most of this time. Gerard is a senior boy who came into the shelter with some health issues. He was cleared by the vet for his neuter in May and is now ready for his next chapter.

Since being in foster, we have learned so much about Gerard's personality and what we believe his ideal home would be.

Things to know about Gerard:
❓Good with dogs: Gerard is selective with his doggy friends. We would set up a meet and greet with any potential applications that have other dogs.
❓Good with cats: Gerard would do well in a home with a dog savvy cat.
❓Good with kids: We think he would do best in an adult only home or a home with older kids.

Gerard can be a bit nervous when meeting new people (especially men) but he does warm up quickly and will show his sweet personality. He enjoys lounging around and being close to his people. This boy is a true couch potato!

Gerard also enjoys going for walks but he needs some help with is leash training.

If you think you are the perfect match for Gerard and want to give him a comfy place to land in his golden years. Please fill out the application form below! 🐾 CASE ID A078161

Our June Shelter Wish List is Here! 🐕🐈

While kitten season has been a little slower to start this year, we know the busy days are just around the corner - and we’re getting ready! 💙

We’ve updated our website with our June Wish List items, and we would be so grateful for your support - whether items are new or gently used (where appropriate). Donations like these help us stretch our resources even further, allowing us to continue investing in medical care, enrichment, and other important needs for the animals in our care.

This month, we’re especially looking for:
- KMR (Kitten Milk Replacer)
- Mini feeding bottles & ni***es
- Hot water bottles & electric heating pads (to keep little ones warm and comfortable)
- Stainless steel slow feeders
- Kuranda-style beds
- Fresh greens for all of our rabbit visitors

And as always, we continue to accept donations of pet food for our Pet Food Bank, helping support families and their beloved pets in our community.

Every thoughtful donation helps us make an even bigger impact for the animals who rely on us.

👉 Check out the full Wish List on our website: https://ow.ly/NgeO50Z7BEk

Thank you for your continued kindness and support! 💙

A huge thank you to our incredible community partners for helping make our recent Rabies & Microchip Clinic such a success!

Together with our dedicated veterinary partner, Animal Clinic of East Durham, and the Region of Durham Public Health Department, we were able to administer nearly 90 rabies vaccines and implant 30 microchips to help pets be safely reunited with their families if they ever become lost.

Microchipping is one of the simplest and most effective ways to help lost pets find their way home. Collars and tags can fall off, but a microchip provides permanent identification that can make all the difference during a stressful situation. Reuniting lost pets with the people who love them is truly one of the best and most rewarding parts of the work we do.

Events like this help keep both pets and people in our community safe, while also giving owners peace of mind knowing their beloved companions have an added layer of protection.

We are so grateful to everyone who volunteered their time, expertise, and support to make this event possible, and especially to all the pet owners who came out!

Thank you for helping us build a safer, healthier, and more connected community for pets and the people who love them. 🐾

(Special thank you to KX96 FM for grabbing this event photo and also spreading word about our event!)

Our bunnies had a tasty treat today!🥬

Did you know cat grass isn't just for cats? Rabbits enjoy it as well! Not only is it tasty but it also provides enrichment and allows them to use their natural foraging instincts. Special thanks to our City Greenhouse neighbours, who helped us grow an abundance of cat grass to help keep our shelter visitors entertained🥰

We love to keep our rabbits busy and active while they stay with us at the shelter. We are always looking for donations of small animal chews and toys. We will also accept fresh veggies! If you are able to donate, please drop off the donations at the shelter during our regular business hours.

Check out the videos of the rabbits munching away in the comments! 💚

Entei is a 1 year old neutered male rabbit. He has been at the shelter since March and would love to find his perfect match.🧡

Entei is looking for an experienced rabbit home. Some may say Entei has an "attitude problem", we say he's particular and knows what he wants.

Entei doesn't like people coming into his space. He can become territorial and will let you know when he is not comfortable. This is why we think he would do best with an experienced rabbit owner who will understand his big personality.

Entei enjoys munching on veggies and lounging on his blankets. He loves having time outside of his enclosure and would do well in a home that can give him lots of time to free roam.

If you think you are the perfect match for Entei, please fill out the application using the link below!🐰
