Happy Tails Cat Rescue Society

Happy Tails Cat Rescue Society Happy Tails Cat Rescue Society is an incorporated not for profit animal rescue in the South Okanagan. So what does our rescue do?

Rescuing cats and helping them live their best lives is a passion for us. We help cats that need love and care. We work to advocate for cats and help them find their forever home. We work to stop unwanted litters of kittens by helping to spay and neuter cats. Our rescue is operated out of a home and all cats and kittens in our care are either housed here or placed with loving foster homes. We beli

eve this will help their personalities show and thrive and better enable us to match a cat with their purr-fect adopter. We ensure all kitties in our care get the vet care they need including shots, deworming, microchip, spay or neuter. We are working hard to reduce the feral population in our service area through spay and neuter and TNR (Trap-Neuter-Release) programs. Our adoption process aims at matching the right humans with their purr-fect pet. We believe that every animal is worthy of a stable environment, food, water, affection and humane care. We are always here to help and are always advocating for cats.

This National Volunteer Week, we want to take a moment to recognize the incredible people who make everything we do possible — our fosters, donors, and drivers.

You are the reason we can say yes to the scared kitten who has nowhere to go.
You are the reason we can open our doors to the injured, the abandoned, the forgotten.
You are the reason Happy Tails Cat Rescue continues to exist, day after day.

Fosters, you give love, patience, and a safe place to land. You turn fear into trust and houses into homes.
Donors, you quietly carry the weight of our mission, ensuring every life we take in gets the care they deserve.
Drivers, you are the bridge between uncertainty and safety, making sure no cat is left behind simply because of distance.

There are no words big enough for what you give. No “thank you” that truly captures the impact you make.

But today, and every day, please know this:
Every purr, every second chance, every life saved — it all begins with you.

From the bottom of our hearts… thank you for being the reason we can say yes. 🐾💛

Popped in today to see one of our amazing vet partners - Peach City Animal Hospital. They adopted this amazing kitty from us and we are so happy to visit with Clinic Boss “Cinnamon” when we go there. You can see she takes her job very seriously and looks the part ❤️😻😹

Sometimes the stars align in rescue ✨

This sweet boy’s story began with heartbreak — hit by a car and left injured on the road. Thankfully, a kind Samaritan stopped. They didn’t look away. They didn’t keep driving. They chose compassion.

With their help, he made it safely to our incredible veterinary partners at Peach City Animal Hospital. He had multiple cuts and injuries, and we braced ourselves for the worst. X-rays were taken… and unbelievably, there were no broken bones. Battered and sore, yes — but this boy was a fighter.

He received the treatment he needed and then moved into one of our loving foster homes to rest and heal. Safe. Warm. Cared for.

A little while later, a post appeared on Facebook — someone desperately missing their cat. Messages were exchanged. Photos compared. Hope grew.

Today, after a week of recovery (and getting fixed with the support of Okanagan Humane Society he was reunited with his dad. There were tears. There were tight embraces. There was the kind of relief you can feel in your chest.

He may have lost a few of his nine lives in his run-in with that car — but he didn’t lose his happy ending.

We are so incredibly grateful:
To the kind Samaritan who stopped.
To Peach City Animal Hospital for their immediate care.
To our attentive foster who loved him through recovery.
To the Okanagan Humane Society for supporting his neuter.
And to our donors, whose generosity allows us to step in and say “yes” when moments like this happen.

We can feel the love in this picture. And tonight, that love feels bigger than the fear that started this journey.

This is why we do what we do.

It is with the heaviest of hearts and a steady flow of tears that we report that today we said goodbye to a sweet soul far too soon. 💔

The cat found earlier today after being hit by a car has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. His injuries were severe, and his bloodwork told the story of a long, difficult battle with underlying health issues. Despite every effort, his little body had endured too much.

What matters most is how he spent his final moments. He was warm. He was held. He was spoken to gently and treated with care and dignity. He did not pass alone on the side of the road—he was surrounded by compassion as he slipped away.

Our vet partner (Peach City Animal Hospital) did not hesitate to make time and space for him the moment he arrived. The loving staff welcomed him with tenderness and gave him a name—Ted—so he would be known, not just as another case, but as someone who mattered.

This is the part of rescue that never gets easier. The tears come not only for the loss, but for the hard life this poor soul likely lived before kindness finally found him. We grieve for what he endured and for the love he may not have known for long enough.

We are deeply grateful to the kind rescuer who acted quickly and refused to look away, and to our devoted veterinary team for their compassion in such a heartbreaking moment.

Run free now, sweet Ted. You mattered. You were loved at the end. 🌈🐾

Are you missing your kitty? This poor guy was found by a Good Samaritan after he was hit by a car. He was hit by rd 9 where the cassini cellars billboard/sign is. Not at the winery. This kitty is different from the ones being hit right by the winery. But this is not very far from there. He is currently at Peach City Cet receiving the care he needs. At time of posting his prognosis is not known. If he is yours or someone you know please reach out to us.

🐾 Unexpected Litter of Kittens? We Can Help! 🐾

Did your cat (or a stray you’ve been caring for) surprise you with a litter of kittens? You’re not alone — and you don’t have to figure it out on your own. 💛

At Happy Tails Cat Rescue, we can help by:
✅ Taking the kittens into our rescue once they’re ready to be weaned
✅ Offering a lower-cost spay for momma cat so this doesn’t happen again
✅ Helping you plan the next steps with support and guidance

🏡 We are a foster-based rescue, which means your kittens will grow up in real homes with loving foster families — not cages. This helps them become well-socialized, confident, and ready for their forever families.

✨ The most important thing you can do is reach out EARLY.
Connecting with us right away gives us time to line up foster homes, supplies, and a safe plan for when the kittens are ready to leave mom. The sooner we know, the better we can help!

📩 Message us as soon as you find out about the litter and we’ll walk you through everything.
Together, we can make sure momma and babies get the care they need — and prevent future surprise litters. 🐱💕
