Cherry eye is the prolapse of the third eyelid’s tear gland—a pinkish-red mass that pops out near the inner corner of the eye.

Normally, this gland is hidden and helps keep the eye moist. But in some dogs (especially breeds like Bulldogs, Beagles, and Cocker Spaniels), a weak attachment allows it to flip outward.

Treatment often involves surgically repositioning the gland, not removing it—preserving its function is key to preventing dry eye later in life.
