SMALL ANIMALS

We are a full-service hospital offering routine preventive health care, elective and emergency surgery, medical diagnostic work and treatment, and hospitalization of sick animals. We are equipped with digital x-ray and digital ultrasound, which allow for excellent visualization of both bony and soft tissues, as well as allowing us to electronically send x-rays and ultrasound images

to radiologists and surgeons for specialist opinions. We are also equipped with an on-site laboratory, which allows us to provide blood counts and blood chemistry and electrolyte analysis in a more timely manner than sending to an outside lab. This technology allows us to closely monitor critically ill patients, and also allows us to provide blood test results in emergency and after-hours situations. Our hospital also has an on-site microbiology laboratory, with a staff microbiologist, which allows for faster identification of pathogens so we are able to innate appropriate and effective treatment in a more timely manner. In addition to general medicine and surgery, our small animal veterinarians have special interests in ophthalmology, diagnosis and treatment of diabetes, oncology and chemotherapy, surgical repair of cruciate ligament injury, and dentistry. Small animal emergency service after 9pm and during holiday closure is available through Central Island Veterinary Emergency Hospital. Their address is 6550 Metral Drive, Nanaimo. As temperatures start to rise, it’s important to remember that cars can become dangerously hot for pets in a matter of minutes.

Even on a mild day, the temperature inside a parked car can climb rapidly—putting your pet at serious risk of heat stress or heatstroke. Cracking a window or parking in the shade doesn’t provide enough protection.

If you’re running errands, the safest choice is to leave your pet at home where they’re cool and comfortable.

Our pets rely on us to keep them safe. A quick trip inside a store isn’t worth the risk.
