With cooler evenings upon us, a great way to spend time with your family is by gathering around the campfire!
Campfires with your dog can be an enjoyable experience if done so safely. Your dog can even sit around the campfire with you. Here are some bonfire safety tips to be aware of the next time you enjoy a fire with your dog.
A good rule of thumb when sitting around a fire with your dog is to pay attention to how you feel. If the smoke is irritating you, it is most likely irritating your dog.
Make sure your dog stays away from the fire pit even long after the fire has gone out. Embers can remain below piles of soot that your dog may try to roll in. By keeping your dog away from the fire, you can avoid them getting burnt, stepping in glass, or getting covered in soot.

Pet photography 101.

Pet owners love their furry and feathered friends. And that love fuels the exciting, and potentially lucrative, pet photography business. Whether it’s a group shot of family members with their cat or an animal portrait of a beloved dog, owners want pet photos that go beyond smartphone snaps. But taking great portrait photography has plenty of challenges, including how to get a pet to sit still and look at the camera. The short answer is practice, patience, and creativity — and an abiding love of animals doesn’t hurt.
Here are some pro tips!
1. Get to know your subjects.
-Studying animal behavior and learning how each pet reacts to a new environment can help you on a shoot, and your observation skills in the moment will be invaluable.
2. Be ready to adapt during a photo shoot.
- Animals react to stimuli, but each cat or dog is unique. Certain subjects will respond to things that others won’t, and none of them will respond the same way every time.
3. Create a comfortable atmosphere for cat photography.
- Cats live in our houses and go in the car only when someone is going to jab them with needles. So they tend to be way more distrustful, which is logical. Getting cats comfortable on a shoot is a much longer process.

We would love to see some of your best pet photos! Please feel free to share with us on social media or send us a private email to the clinic!

Today's pets are living longer, healthier lives thanks to the availability of high-quality veterinary care, preventive care, and pet owners' careful monitoring of their animals for early signs of illness.
The bond between a pet owner and their veterinarian is crucial for both the pet's health and the owner's peace of mind. It's a relationship built on trust, open communication, and a shared commitment to the animal's well-being. This bond can lead to better preventative care, more effective treatment, and a stronger overall connection between the owner and their pet.
At Breslau Animal Hospital, we are passionate about our mission to provide compassionate and individualized care to each of our patients. Every member of our team strives to maintain the most up-to-date practices and information to share with our clients so we all can be active partners in their pet's health.

Meet the Team- Dr. Christiane Orsini

Dr. Orsini became fascinated with animals at a very young age. Her passion for animals has blessed her with amazing opportunities for learning and service, including: volunteer work in Brisbane, Australia; Kenya, Tanzania and Malawi; comparative orthopedic research at Mount Sinai hospital in Toronto; "One Health" remote work with Vets Without Borders [Ukraine and Vietnam projects]; offering mentorship for veterinary students and, more recently, practicing telemedicine including speaking engagements at veterinary conferences regionally and nationally.

She graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2014 with a primary focus on companion animal medicine. She has experience in both general practice and emergency medicine, specializing in canine and feline medical care. Early in her career, Dr. Christiane has dedicated herself to integrative veterinary medicine. She believes in the body's inherent ability to heal itself and she is passionate about treatment modalities that support the body during this healing process.

She thrives on a holistic-based medical approach for all of her treatment plans for her patients. Offering more solutions for pets and pet parents enhancing quality of life (physically and mentally) and maximizing the human-animal bond between pet parents and their animal family members. She has a keen interest in: acupuncture/acupressure, traditional Chinese veterinary medicine [TCVM] including Chinese herbal medicine and tui-na massage, Western herbal medicine, aromatherapy, nutrition, rehabilitation and energy medicine. She has a zest for learning and is certified in veterinary acupuncture, with formal training in Chinese herbal medicine and integrative canine rehabilitation.

She loves spending time with her family, friends and of course, her pets! She also has a passion for writing poetry and composing music; as well as sports, yoga, meditation and traveling.

Joining the amazing veterinary team at Breslau Animal Hospital is a dream come true! She is so grateful to return to clinical work to provide "hands-on" healing. She looks forward to helping your pets heal!

As pet owners, we do everything we can to keep our furry companions safe and healthy. But with pollution levels on the rise and wildfires becoming more frequent, a new concern has entered the picture: how air quality affects pets.

Just like us, animals breathe in the surrounding air with every breath. But unlike us, they often do it closer to the ground, where pollutants can concentrate. Dogs sniff during walks, cats lounge by open windows, and birds rely on efficient respiratory systems that make them even more vulnerable.

How to Protect Pets From Poor Air Quality
1. Limit Outdoor Exposure
Walk dogs during low-AQI times: early morning or late evening.

Keep cats indoors entirely on smoky days.

Shorten walks and opt for indoor play.

Posted By Another Vet Hospital :

5 cases of Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever (RMSF) have been reported in dogs who have visited the Long Point area in the last month.

This is a relatively new-to-Canada tick borne disease, transmitted by the American dog tick/wood tick and the Brown dog tick. These ticks transmit the infectious bacterium Rickettsia rickettsii. Humans can also be infected by this bacteria.

The most common symptoms of RMSF are vague, but they include fever, lethargy, poor appetite, stiffness/lameness. More extreme symptoms may also include gastrointestinal signs and focal hemorrhages/petechia.

If you suspect your pet may have RMSF, please contact the clinic immediately.
