Heartworm season is almost here! Beginning in June, we recommend that dogs stay on heartworm prevention until November. The most common prevention options are once-monthly oral or topical medications.
Heartworm disease is spread through mosquito bites and can pose serious health risks to your pet. Infected dogs may show symptoms such as coughing, fatigue, reduced activity, or weight loss but some dogs may not show any signs at all until the disease has progressed.
Prevention is simple, safe, and far more effective than treatment. Protecting your dog during mosquito season is one of the best ways to keep them healthy.
