Dolphins have a**l glands like dogs - who knew 🤷‍♀️ Happy National Dolphin Day 🐬

Today is National Dolphin Day! 🐬

A pre-a**l gland abscess should be considered as a potential cause for systemic inflammation and clinical illness in male bottlenose dolphins, particularly those that are hesitant to slide out and place weight on their caudal ventral region.

Adrenal tumours have appeared to be the flavour of the month this week in my mobile ultrasound practice. Here is a nice retrospective study on the survival of patients with those nasty invasive adrenal tumours.

Adrenalectomy for ruptured adrenal gland masses was associated with similar short- and long-term outcomes as compared with previously reported nonruptured cases.

If hemodynamic stability can be achieved, delaying surgery and limiting additional procedures appear indicated to optimize short-term survival.

When you feel like you cannot trust the ground you are standing on or the walls and roofs that provide you shelter. When you are afraid to fall asleep. When time is measured by the length of prayers you can offer for your family. When the number of people in your life is reduced by the hour.

When there is little you can do apart from keeping everybody safe and helping those who are alive. When you know that life is asking you to start all over again. Then you realize that a tragedy has knocked at your door. That an earthquake is much more than a video on your feed, a movement of tectonic plates, and the explanations of experts.

That for those who remain, life is never going to be the same. We are deeply touched by the events unfolding in Morocco, and we are grieving the loss of countless people. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have lost their lives and their families.

Starting off the year with a new GE Logic eR8 ultrasound machine. The R7 has put on many miles and seen many pets’ bellies and hearts (and I hope has made a difference) It will be spending its retirement years in my veterinary hospital helping my associates hone down their ultrasound skills and help many patients to come. This brand spanking new baby is coming on the road with me now. Welcome my new friend 🫲
And thank you Heska Canada 🇨🇦 for this smooth transition 👍 Thank you Ranbir and Paul

Non-cardiac thoracic ultrasound can be a very helpful tool in general practice. Pulmonary masses were found on x-ray in this patient with a history of mammary carcinoma and lung fluke. The cranial mass was filled with hemorrhagic non-clotting fluid and I was able to drain about 80 cc under ultrasound guidance. The heterogeneous, solid region was FNA'd with cytology pending.

Today is International Dog Day! 🐶

SNAP cPL test results are mostly reliable but can still be abnormal in a small percentage of dogs with gastrointestinal foreign body obstruction.

Abnormal results in dogs without pancreatitis occurred more frequently in older dogs of the present study. Abdominal imaging is advised for dogs with abnormal SNAP cPL test results.
