“My pet ate WHAT?”

Dogs and cats are well known for eating things they should not. Sometimes we see it happen, while other times pets may present with vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, or decreased appetite.

One important condition we always want to rule out is a gastrointestinal foreign body. Diagnostic imaging such as x-rays and ultrasound can help determine whether an object is present and where it is located.

In some cases, if the object is still within the stomach, upper GI endoscopy may allow us to retrieve it without major surgery.

At Bay VETS Urgent Care Collingwood our veterinarians can often perform this minimally invasive procedure in appropriate cases. Early assessment is important if you suspect your pet has ingested something they should not have.
