📢We have seen a sudden increase in KC cases within our community over the past few weeks!🩺🐾🐶
What is Kennel Cough?🤔
🤧💤Distinct Cough: Harsh, dry, hacking, or "honking" sound.
Other Signs: Sneezing, runny nose, eye discharge, and reduced energy. Usually mild, but can lead to lethargy, fever, or pneumonia, especially in puppies and seniors.
🦠Highly Contagious: Spreads rapidly through airborne droplets, direct contact, or contaminated surfaces (bowls, toys).
Commonly caused by Bordetella bronchiseptica bacteria, canine parainfluenza virus, and canine adenovirus type 2.
🏥💊Treatment & Prevention
Veterinary Care: Consult a vet, especially if the cough persists or if symptoms like loss of appetite appear. Treatment may include cough suppressants or antibiotics.
🏡Isolation: Infected dogs should be isolated from other dogs for at least two weeks after symptoms disappear.
💉 The Bordetella vaccine is highly recommended for dogs that socialize frequently (daycare, dog parks).
Home Care Tips:
💤💧Rest & Hydration: Ensure plenty of rest and water.
🐕🦺Use a Harness: Switch from a collar to a harness to reduce pressure on the trachea.
Humidity: Use a humidifier to help soothe airways.
