🔹Tick map shows Vancouver Island at top of Lyme disease risk areas🔹

Much of the southern half of Vancouver Island is a potentially risky region for encountering the black-legged tick, which can carry Lyme disease and infect people or pets with its bite.

The B.C. Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) has released a new interactive map (linked in the comments) showing areas in BC where the threat of encountering brown-legged ticks is high. The soothers half of the Island, along with the Sunshine Coast, represent the largest provincial high-risk areas.

The good news is, few ticks carry the virus responsible for the disease, but every year individuals in BC are diagnosed with Lyme disease most often contracted via interaction with ticks on the coast.

Wear long sleeved-shirts and pants when hiking or spending time in areas with dense foliage and tall grasses, and check for ticks after your activity.

To all of our valued clients. I am closely monitoring the temperatures for this coming week. Tuesday looks like it will still be quite extreme, and unless something drastically changes, I will calling or messaging to reschedule. Even with air conditioning the shop heats up between 2 ladies working, dryers, and dogs panting. I will be in touch tomorrow. Please be safe, stay hydrated, and stay cool as you can.
