💧 Helping Your Cat Feel Better at Home 💧
If your cat has chronic kidney disease or is dehydrated, your vet may recommend subcutaneous (under-the-skin) fluids. These help keep them hydrated, flush toxins, and improve comfort — without repeated hospital visits. 🐾

✨ Why SQ Fluids Help

Support kidney function

Maintain hydration

Boost energy & appetite

🩺 How It Works
Fluids are given under the loose skin between the shoulders using a small needle and a fluid bag. It’s quick, safe, and can be done at home once you’re shown how.

🐱 Tips for Success:
✔️ Warm the fluid bag slightly (never too hot) for comfort
✔️ Choose a calm, quiet time of day
✔️ Reward with treats and affection afterward
✔️ Follow your vet’s instructions on volume and frequency

📅 We Can Show You How!
If your cat needs fluids, we’ll guide you step-by-step until you feel confident doing it at home.

💙 Your dedication can make all the difference in your cat’s quality of life.

🦷 Severe Periodontal Disease in Dogs – Why Dental Care is Vital! 🐾
This brave patient came in with severe periodontal disease – a condition where infection and inflammation damage the gums, teeth, and bone.
On examination and X-rays, we found:
⚠️ Loose teeth
⚠️ Bone loss around tooth roots
⚠️ Severe tartar & infection
We performed a full dental cleaning and multiple tooth extractions to relieve pain, stop the infection, and improve quality of life.
🐕 What is Periodontal Disease?
It’s one of the most common health issues in pets. Plaque turns into tartar, bacteria invade under the gums, and over time it causes irreversible damage – leading to tooth loss, pain, and even organ disease.
💡 Signs your pet may have dental disease:
Bad breath 🦨
Drooling or bleeding gums 💧
Difficulty eating 🍗
Pawing at the mouth ✋
Loose or missing teeth
🪥 Prevention is better than cure!
✔️ Annual veterinary dental checkups
✔️ Professional cleanings
✔️ Home care: brushing, dental chews, water additives
Remember: Pets don’t complain of toothaches – they simply adapt and suffer silently. Early intervention means a healthier, happier life. ❤️

🐾 Ear Polyp Removal in a Brave Feline 🐱💛
Swipe to see the journey ➡️

👂 Today we’re sharing the story of a courageous kitty who came in with a chronic ear issue. After a thorough otoscopic exam, we identified an aural polyp—a benign but problematic growth deep within the ear canal.

📸
1️⃣ Otoscopic view: Revealed inflammation and a suspicious mass in the ear.
2️⃣ Extraction: Under general anesthesia, our vet team carefully removed the polyp.
3️⃣ The culprit: A fleshy mass that had been causing discomfort and ear infections.
4️⃣ Recovery: Our patient is now on the mend with a cone of courage and lots of love 💛

🔬 Ear polyps are non-cancerous but can lead to serious infections, discomfort, and hearing loss if left untreated. Early diagnosis and treatment are key to a happy, healthy pet!

📅 If your cat has head shaking, ear discharge, or frequent scratching, book an ear exam today.

🐾 July is Pet Loss Prevention Month 💛

Your furry friend counts on you for their safety every day.
This month, we’re shining a light on the simple steps you can take to help prevent the heartbreak of a lost pet.

💡 Pet Loss Prevention Tips:
✅ Microchip & ID Tags:
Make sure your pet’s microchip is up to date and ID tags are secure on their collar.

✅ Secure Your Home & Yard:
Double-check fences, gates, doors, and windows to prevent accidental escapes.

✅ Leash Up Every Time:
Always use a sturdy leash when heading outside, even for quick potty breaks.

✅ Fireworks & Loud Noises:
Many pets bolt when startled. Create a calm, secure space indoors, especially during celebrations.

✅ Stay Alert While Traveling:
Use pet seatbelts or carriers in the car and never leave them unattended in unfamiliar places.

❤️ Your Pet is Family
Losing a pet can be traumatic for both pets and their people. This July, let’s work together to keep your furry loved ones safe, happy, and right by your side.

🐾 Fun Facts About Cats & Dogs! 🐶🐱

At Hespeler Animal Hospital, we love celebrating our furry friends. Here are some fascinating facts about cats and dogs you might not know:

🐱 Cat Curiosities

✨ Whisker Wonders:
Cats’ whiskers aren’t just for decoration—they help them measure gaps and sense changes in air currents. If a cat’s whiskers touch the sides of something, it knows whether it can fit through!

✨ Purring Power:
A cat’s purr can have a calming effect on humans and is even thought to promote healing in their own bodies. Some researchers believe the frequency of purring (around 25–150 Hz) can help heal bones and tissues.

✨ Super Sleepers:
Cats sleep an average of 12–16 hours a day. That’s because they are natural predators, and conserving energy is in their DNA—even if their biggest hunt is for a treat!

🐶 Dog Delights

✨ Nose Print ID:
Every dog’s nose print is unique, just like human fingerprints. Some organizations even use nose prints for canine identification.

✨ Tail Talks:
Wagging doesn’t always mean happy! Dogs wag their tails in different ways to communicate. A slow wag can mean insecurity, while a fast, wide wag usually signals excitement.

✨ Smell Superpowers:
Dogs’ sense of smell is up to 100,000 times more powerful than ours. That’s why they can detect everything from your mood to certain medical conditions!

💚 Caring for Your Best Friends

Whether your pet is a purring cuddle-bug or a tail-wagging explorer, Hespeler Animal Hospital is here to help you keep them healthy and happy.

✨ Case of the Day: Feline Foreign Body Obstruction ✨

Meet Gypsy 🐱—this brave girl came to us feeling very unwell. After careful examination and radiographs, we discovered she had a dangerous intestinal blockage.

Swipe ➡️ to see what we removed: a clump of hair (trichobezoar) that caused her stomach and intestines to swell painfully. 💔

Gypsy underwent exploratory surgery to clear the obstruction. She is now recovering comfortably with pain relief, antibiotics, and lots of TLC—and wearing her stylish recovery cone to keep that incision safe! 💛

Signs of a possible GI obstruction in cats:
🔹 Vomiting or dry heaving
🔹 Loss of appetite
🔹 Abdominal pain or bloating
🔹 Lethargy

If your pet shows these symptoms, please don’t wait—early intervention can save lives.

We are so proud of Gypsy for being such a trooper, and grateful to her family for trusting us with her care. 🐾💖
