Sometimes I just have to shake my head and wonder why a dog would eat certain things.

Meet Binx. He will eat anything and everything in sight which means he often comes to see us to induce vomiting. Bottle caps, baby chewing mitts, foam golf balls - it all looks tasty for him. His last adventure he ate the seasoning package from some Kraft Dinner. This was not open - he would not have tasted any of the seasoning. All he tasted was cardboard/plastic - yet he still ate it - intact. Luckily we were able to get it back up because that definitely would have gotten stuck in his intestines.

Inducing vomiting - it's not fun, but it can be so important preventing a blockage and the need for invasive surgery. We always ask what they ate because some items are not safe to induce vomiting on - anything sharp like chicken bones can cause trauma on the way up (and on the way down), caustic substances can cause more damage coming back up (cleaning supplies, paint thinner, etc.) and larger items have the risk of getting stuck on the way back up. Inducing vomiting is not a benign procedure and we must always measure the risks vs benefits.

- ๐‹๐จ๐ฐ-๐ˆ๐ฆ๐ฉ๐š๐œ๐ญ ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐š๐ฒ - nosework, puzzle feeder and gentle tug are much better than jumping for frisbees, chasing squirrels in the backyard or running up and down stairs.

Our pets are way more sensitive to THC than people. Gummies, brownies, vapes, joints can make them very sick.

Wobbly walking, drooling, vomiting, leaking urine, lethargy/sleepiness or the opposite - hyperactive and anxious, dilated pupils, glazed eyes, tremors/startling, slow heart rate, low body temperature - these are all signs to watch for.

- contact us or pet poison helpline immediately.
- do not try and make them vomit at home - if they are already sedate, that can increase the risk of aspiration pneumonia

Ok maybe it is us. Some cats don't like to come see us and that is ok. We now have great options to make their visits calmer for them and hopefully they will be happier to see us in the future. Some calming medications can go a long way prior to an appointment to make the experience better for everyone involved. If they like treats, we often try with canned food or lick tubes to win our way into their heart. And some cats will never love us and that is ok too. We even have soft collars that we can use.

๐–๐š๐ญ๐œ๐ก ๐ฉ๐ž๐ž ๐ก๐š๐›๐ข๐ญ๐ฌ: Not just the Box - more trips, straining, crying, or tiny puddles.
Healthy cats p*e 2-4X/day in decent-sized clumps. If you're seeing lots of small spots, blood, or your cat is in-and-out of the box, that's an emergency flag, especially for males.
