Des medication for dog incontinence no longer available

Important Medication Update: DES (Diethylstilbestrol/Stilbesterol)
We want to let you know about an important medication change affecting some of our patients.

DES (diethylstilbestrol)—a medication used to help manage urinary incontinence in dogs—is no longer available due to regulatory and supply limitations. It's no longer available on the human side, veterinary side including any compounding options.

What is DES?
DES is a synthetic estrogen hormone that helps improve bladder control by strengthening the muscle that prevents urine leakage. It has commonly been used in spayed female dogs with urinary incontinence.

What does this mean?
We are no longer able to prescribe or obtain DES
There is no direct replacement for this medication
Some pets may need time and adjustments as we explore other management options

If your pet is currently on DES:
Please contact us before making any changes
We understand this may be frustrating, especially if your pet has been doing well on DES. Our team is here to support you and help find the best way forward for your pet’s comfort and care.
