Thanksgiving is a time to celebrate with family & food 🍁🇨🇦 But which foods are safe to feed your pet?

Save this for later... and share with your pet-loving friends and family!

🛑 Don’t share these human foods with your dog!
- Garlic
- Chocolate (extremely toxic to dogs!)
- Alcohol
- Gravy
- Raisins, grapes
- Nuts
- Turkey skin or bones
- Stuffing
- Fatty or spicy food

✅ Which Thanksgiving foods are safe to feed to your dog?
- Turkey meat (no skin, fat or bones which are brittle when cooked and can do serious internal damage!)
- Potatoes (plain, no butter)
- Sweet potatoes or yams (raw, dried or cooked)
- Carrots and beans (raw or cooked, not canned where there’s lots of salt added)
- Pumpkin (raw, cooked, or canned - be sure it’s pure, not “pumpkin pie filling” that has lots of sugar)

👉 With any new foods, keep an eye on your pet for any signs of distress such as diarrhea, vomiting, or lethargy. Contact your vet immediately.

🎃 Pumpkin isn’t just for pies or lattes... It can be a healthy snack for pets, too (in moderation)!

✅ Supports digestive health
✅ Helps with weight management
✅ Provides nutrients + hydration (But don't give your pets pumpkin spice or pie filling.)

Stick with plain, canned pumpkin or freshly cooked pumpkin.

🐾How often should you take your pet to the vet? 🐱 Is an annual visit enough? 🐶

Pet care is a lifelong commitment to your pet’s health and well-being, and regular vet visits serve both you and your dog or cat best when they include planned preventative care.

🐾 How often your pet needs a check-up or wellness exam depends on their general health and stage of life:

✅ Puppies and kittens - when you bring home your new pet, it’s a good idea to include their first check-up to establish their health record even if they’ve come to you with up-to-date shots. Several vaccinations are needed between 6 wks and 16 wks.

During wellness exams, your vet would also be checking their growth, alertness, and making observations about their internal and external health condition.

At around 6 months, it’s time for the next check-up, which might also include discussions of your pet’s general housetraining and socialization, as well as getting your pet spayed or neutered.

⁣✅ Adult dogs and cats (generally 4-7 years depending on the type of pet and its breed) - an annual wellness exam is recommended to check their overall health, and any vaccination updates.

⁣✅ Senior pets (7 to 10 years and older) - It’s a good idea to have check-ups twice a year as your dog or cat gets older. Even if they seem to be in good health a thorough wellness exam with blood and urine tests can often detect underlying illnesses, and give ample time for preventative treatment to give them a long and happy life with you.
