🐶 Canine Blood Donor Heroes Needed! 🩸

Today is World Blood Donor Day, so we thought it’s a perfect opportunity to share some exciting news: Cambrian Animal Hospital is hosting a canine blood drive on July 17 from 3:00–6:00pm, and we have 4 spots left for donors!

Donating blood can save lives in situations like:
✨ Cancer therapy support
✨ Surgery or trauma
✨ Rat poison toxicity
✨ Anemia
✨ Parvovirus
✨ Immune-mediated diseases

Each unit of blood can help up to 3 other dogs and their families. 🐾 Please take a look at these infographics for eligibility and more information, and if your pup is eligible, please reach out to us directly to register!

❤️May’s Pet of the Month❤️

Meet Tobi, the baby rottie that made everyone’s day with his puppy vaccine visit this week. His happy, hyper personality quickly made him a star in the clinic! Tobi is also a Healthy Start patient, so his mum is able to take advantage of our bundled services to ensure he sets off on the right paw. We can’t wait to see Tobi for his next vaccine visit and see how he grows! 🐾

With heavy hearts, we said goodbye to our beloved clinic cat, Pidge.
Pidge has been part of our clinic family for over 10 years. He’s been a constant presence, offering morale boosts, occasional cuddles (when he wanted food), and mischief to keep us on our toes. He made our clinic feel like home.

Pidge was more than just a clinic cat, he was family. The clinic won’t be the same without him, and he will be missed every single day.
Rest easy, sweet boy. 💙

Loud thunder and flashing lightning can be terrifying for our furry friends. If your dog or cat gets anxious during storms, you're not alone—and we’re here to help! 💙
Here are a few tips to keep your pets calm during storms:

🐶 Create a safe, quiet space they can retreat to—like a cozy crate or closet.
😺 Use calming aids like anxiety wraps, pheromone diffusers, or soft music.
🐾 Stay calm yourself—your pet takes cues from you.
💊 Ask us about calming supplements or medication if needed.
📱 Never leave pets outside during a storm!

🌼 Spring is here — but so are seasonal pet hazards! 🐾
As flowers bloom and outdoor activities pick up, it's important to stay mindful of common springtime toxins that can harm your furry friends.

🚫 Toxic to pets:
🌸 Lilies (especially dangerous for cats)
🍫 Chocolate and sugar-free gum (xylitol)
🌷 Spring bulbs like tulips and daffodils
🧴 Herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers
🍄 Wild mushrooms

The veterinary world is a rollercoaster of emotions. One moment you’re celebrating a life saved, the next you’re grappling with the loss of a beloved patient. It’s a job filled with compassion and resilience. This week is mental health week, so we want to take a moment to acknowledge the importance of this conversation.

Aleks, a VetStrategy team member, lost his battle with depression in 2021. In honour of his memory, we launched Aleks' Promise, a national program to address mental health and limit stressors impacting animal health professionals daily.

Burnout and compassion fatigue are real struggles for individuals in our profession, and many other fields. Today we recognize the importance of taking care of ourselves, and how we can honour Aleks' life by acting with gentleness and care for ourselves and those around us. You never know what someone may be going through, and how far an act of kindness can go.

But that’s not all. Mental health week is not just for the veterinary field - it is for everybody. We want to remind you it’s important to give yourself grace and to reach out for help when you need it. You are not alone, and there are resources available to you:
