Did you know we offer BAER hearing testing? 👂🐶

Our Reproduction Department offers BAER (Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response) testing for dogs. This quick, painless, non-invasive test is the gold standard for evaluating hearing and can identify normal hearing, unilateral deafness (one ear), or bilateral deafness (both ears).

One of the best parts? We can perform the test right in the exam room with you present, and we can test entire litters during the same appointment.

BAER testing is especially recommended for breeds predisposed to congenital hearing loss and can provide valuable information for breeders and new puppy owners alike.

Meet Murphy. 🐾

After stealing some mulch and bits of an electrical cord, Murphy found herself in our ER. Where she may have also stolen our hearts💕

We first attempted to induce vomiting, but when the material couldn't be removed, our team performed an endoscopy to safely retrieve it without surgery. Along the way, Murphy received plenty of love and cuddles from our team.

We're happy to say she recovered well and was able to head home with her family the same day!

If your pet swallows something they shouldn't or chews on an electrical cord, don't wait to seek veterinary care. Early treatment can make all the difference.

Foreign body ingestion is a common emergency in both dogs and cats 🐾

While some swallowed objects may pass on their own, others can become lodged and cause pain, vomiting, obstruction, or damage to the gastrointestinal tract.

Loki swallowed pieces of a rubber toy that became stuck in his stomach. With an endoscope, we were able to remove the pieces and avoid a surgical procedure.

If you suspect your pet has eaten something they shouldn’t, contact a vet right away.

Everyone meet Gremlin! 🐈‍⬛ This sweet boy who belongs to one of our wonderful TA’s came in to donate blood yesterday💉🩸because of his bravery he was able to help a fellow patient 🩵 🩺

⚠️ Blue-green algae can be deadly for pets.

During warmer months, harmful algae blooms can appear in lakes, ponds, and slow-moving water — and dogs can become seriously ill from drinking or swimming in contaminated water.

Watch for:🐾 Water that looks green, blue-green, or has a paint-like film🐾 Thick algae floating on the surface🐾 Foul or unusual smells near the water

Symptoms after exposure can include:
⚠️ Vomiting
⚠️ Weakness
⚠️ Drooling
⚠️ Difficulty walking
⚠️ Seizures

If you suspect exposure, contact a veterinarian immediately.

When in doubt, keep pets out of questionable water and bring fresh drinking water on adventures!

🚨 Porcupine Season 🚨

This patient came in after a run in with a porcupine.

In this case, we had to carefully make a small incision with a scalpel to safely retrieve the quill after it had travelled from the original puncture site.

⚠️ If your pet gets quilled, please DO NOT attempt to remove the quills at home.
Porcupine quills break very easily and can continue migrating through the body, potentially causing serious complications involving the eyes, chest, lungs, heart, joints, and other tissues.

Quill removal should be performed under sedation by a veterinary team to maximize the chances of safely and completely removing all quills while minimizing pain and complications.

If your pet has encountered a porcupine, contact your veterinarian or emergency clinic as soon as possible.
