This year, the hospital will be CLOSED on MONDAY, JUNE 30th AND TUESDAY, JULY 1st in celebration of Canada Day!

Dr. Jody is ON CALL for Emergencies Only from Friday, June 27th at noon, through Wednesday, July 2nd at 8 am.

National Dog Bite Prevention Week

👶🐾 Teaching Your Child How to Approach a Dog Safely 🐕

Did you know children are the most likely to be bitten by dogs? That’s why it’s so important to teach them the right way to approach any dog—and always supervise their interactions! 🙌

Here are some key tips to teach your kids:

1. Get Permission First: Always ask the dog’s owner if it’s okay to approach a dog.

2. Let the Dog Come to You: Wait for the dog to approach you first. If they seem uninterested, don’t force it.

3. Pet the Shoulders & Back: Avoid petting a dog on the head—focus on the shoulders and back.

4. Stay Calm: No jumping, yelling, or sudden movements. Dogs can get anxious with loud or erratic behavior.

5. Never Face-to-Face: Don’t let your child put their face near a dog’s face, especially one they don’t know.

6. Watch for Stress Signals: If the dog seems nervous, have your child back off immediately.

💡 Bonus tip: Teach your kids to "be a tree"—stand still with their arms crossed when a dog comes towards them. This helps keep them safe and calm!
