Close the RIB? Create space for the rib???

Two concepts that remove the need TO Push Or Drive. Creates lightness in my mind and lightness in my communication.

Our greatest tool as a trainer is END OF SESSION, use it wisely!

How did you end your session today, more importantly WHEN did you end it?

One of the first steps in teaching a pony to long rein.

This is my tie up wall,

Chicko needs to be really confident having me behind him at a distance without my hand maintaining connection.
He needs to be happy with ropes moving around his legs ribs and back.

But most importantly he needs to learn when I am asking him to move and when he can ignore a rope touch him.

Leaving to put horses on the wall before long reining them helped me so much and made things so much clearer for my young horses.

Pin point focus, or a big flat slow push.
Yeh I messed this one up.

Also could have given Tiv a bit more release and soak time between her correct answer to my ask and me asking again.

First saddle on our little pony Chiko.

I couldn't find a roller smaller enough so here we are straight to the BIG GUNS πŸ˜„β˜ΊοΈ πŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ

No no a pony pad should do the trick.

We have used walk away and lead pattern to teach chick to come to be caught, load on a truck, load on a float now we are using a really similar pattern to introduce his saddle.

Patten's make learning easy for horses. But once a horse is super comfortable I begin to break all the Patten's and mix it up.

But why do I run away??????? Because when my horses do something amazing I take a step back, get out of their space and give them time to lick and think.

If I jump in with a pat too quickly, sometimes I break the thought pattern which I want to be.- What did I have to do for Lara to release the cue.

(Running away like Captain Jack sparrow is more to exaggerate this idea for the video) But feel free to vacate your arena, if your horse doesn't get too stressed about you leaving.

F = MA

Pressure= F/ unit area.

A fun idea, my brain is sometimes really fun.

Hope you like my odd rant this morning.

If you are looking for the take home message- A cue is any instruction I give to my horse and is always as soft as possible.

Nice side step but is your inside hind leg under or are you dragging your inside shoulder out?

For a long time I took my inside hand across my outside shoulder and the result was that my horse fell through the shoulder..... My side step wasn't getting the desired effect of balancing the inside hind.

While this video is not perfect, today we worked on bringing our inside hand under and squaring my shoulders.

What I do if a horse doesn't understand my head down cue????

This!!!!

Follow left, follow right, ask for down. Reward the smallest try. With release 😁😁😁😁😁😁

This is Bella day two of lying down. Yesterday was exactly the same 3min installing cues. Take her to awesome lie down spot, lay down in seconds. This has totally blown my mind at how fast she got this! And how fast she understood! I have never taught her to bow or lie down before yesterday.

But………. She had already finished her ridden work, she has had a wash, and she does like to roll naturally. All of these things really help! ….Also credit to Josh knight for teaching us this at his clinic a few weeks ago!
