Feeling like a road trip? Head into one of our shelters in Cranbourne or North Melbourne to meet them! It could be love at first sight 💕

Please be advised that if you're meeting a prosocial dog, you need to bring your resident dog in for the meet-and-greet. If you have children, they'll also need to meet your prospective pup. The initial meeting with the dog is and important step to make sure they are a good fit with your family, and your family is a good fit for them! Our customer service staff are happy to guide you in this process and help you find a new best friend.

Our feline friends need toys! 🐱

Every cat and kitten that comes through our doors deserves play, mental stimulation and enrichment. As a non-government, not-for-profit organisation, we rely on donations from generous animal lovers to supply our cats and kittens with toys.

Every now and then, we meet a cat that is hiding, not accepting treats or pats, but bring out that feather wand toy and they turn into a whole new confident kitty! Toys give our staff and volunteers another way to interact and bond with our cats, as well as the novelty they need for enrichment.

We are looking for donations of:
🪄 Wands and teaser toys
🧶 Balls and other small toys
🧩 Puzzle toys and interactive toys

Please consider the size of the toys you donate, as many of our cats are in condos that cannot fit large toys or tall scratchers. You can drop off your donations at either of our shelters during our opening hours.

The team from Bell and Bone dropped by to hand-deliver some very special treats! 🐱🐶

We are so grateful to Bell & Bone for thinking of our animals and generously donating 12,000 individual dental treats! 😻 The cats and dogs at our shelters and in foster care will benefit from this donation for weeks to come. It was heartwarming for us to see the team's passion and love for the animals in our care.

It's so important that our staff and volunteers can routinely provide enriching treats of all types to our animals, giving them a bit of extra love and attention during a stressful time, and donations like this are a huge help. 💙

📣 Cat and kitten adoption day tomorrow at The Lost Dogs' Home!

Here are some adorable kitties available for adoption on Saturday.

Adoption fees for Saturday, 20th of June, will be:
🐈 $100 for kittens
🐈‍⬛ $25 for cats over the age of 6 months

These fees apply at our Cranbourne and North Melbourne shelters this Saturday only!

✅ Every cat and kitten available for adoption is desexed, vaccinated and microchipped. We've made sure they are 100% ready to go home with you on Saturday!

We couldn't fit all our available kitties into one post, so please visit our website to see them all and find out which shelter they can be adopted from.

If you are ready to adopt a new furry forever friend, please bring a current photo ID and a cat carrier to safely transport them home in. We expect a great turnout, so please allow extra time to meet our perfect match and adopt. Our staff will do their very best to facilitate every adoption in a timely manner, so please be patient as they help you and many others find a new furry friend.

The City of Kingston cat and kitten adoption day has been rescheduled to Saturday, 8th of August.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.

If you're still thinking about adopting this Saturday, our shelters will be offering the same adoption fees intended for the event. 😻

We are committed to finding as many loving homes for our cats and kittens as possible, so this Saturday, 20th of June, adoption fees will be:

$100 for kittens
$25 for cats over the age of 6 months

Both of our shelters in Cranbourne and North Melbourne will be participating.

Otherwise, come along to the City of Kingston cat and kitten adoption day on the Saturday, 8th of August.

Could you give Snickers the second chance he deserves?

Since Snickers came to us as a stray, he has been making friends everywhere he goes. It has been hard to watch him wait for so long for someone to come along and make him their new best friend, but we know they're out there.

He is a lover of people and would want nothing more than to spend his days with his favourite humans. His favourite person-oriented activities are walks, playing fetch and a spirited match of tug-of-war. Snickers will easily accompany you on intrepid hikes, runs or bike rides, powered by his seemingly never-ending reserves of energy! If you're looking for an active dog to suit an active lifestyle, Snickers is the boy for you. 🚴‍♀️

Snickers has responded well to positive, rewards-based training. He is motivated to learn new things, especially when his special treats are involved. Providing Snickers with a structured lifestyle that allows him to continue working on his skills will give you both the chance to build trust and a lifelong bond. One thing we know for certain about Snickers is that he will be the most loyal, loving companion anyone could ask for.

Snickers would benefit from an adults-only home where he is the only pet, so he can enjoy the stability, space and time he needs to decompress and settle into his new life.

Can you help lost and abandoned dogs and cats this winter?

Each week, frightened and abandoned dogs and cats arrive at our doors. Often, they are cold, hungry, and in urgent need of care.

This winter, we’re expecting more than 5,000 lost and abandoned pets to come through our shelters.

Rusty and his littermates were just 12 weeks old when they were brought to the Home. They were so weak and malnourished, they could barely stand.

These tiny puppies should have been playing, learning, and growing stronger every day. Instead, Rusty’s body had been so deprived of nutrients that even walking was a struggle.

Rusty and his littermates were able to heal and find loving forever homes, but more pets like Rusty are arriving at our shelters.

When they do, they need veterinary care, warmth, food, and time to heal and feel safe again.

Please, if you can, consider donating today to help more animals like Rusty this winter.

As a non-government, not-for-profit organisation, we rely on the kindness of our community to help care for unwanted and abandoned dogs and cats.

Sit back, relax, and scroll through some of our happy pupdates 🐾

Taquito, adopted in March, has learned that he loves everyone and everything, from park walks to toys and playing in his yard. We love his positive attitude and expressive ears. Go Taquito! 🐰

Beautiful golden retriever Benny was adopted in April 2025 and became fast friends with his 'tiny sister', Eve. His family adore him and say he has settled into their home very well.

Lovely Poppy is obviously adored by her new family, who adopted her 3 years ago. Look at that beautiful haircut! 💁‍♀️ In the last year, she has gained a new adopted (and impeccably groomed) brother, Moe!

Moe, with the adorable bow tie, was adopted a year ago and spends his time being cheeky and annoying his tolerant big sis, Poppy. Their adopter said, 'Best choice I ever made was adopting these two.’

Doberman, Patrick, was adopted in late 2024. Since then, his adopters tell us they purchased a bigger home 'basically for him.' He loves exploring, walks and getting up to mischief. We hope he is enjoying the new backyard in the house his adopters moved into for him. Lucky, lucky boy.

Monnie, AKA Monroe, was adopted 6 months ago. In that short time, she has decided that the entire couch works perfectly as a dog bed. She looks incredibly comfortable, so who could blame her?

Lovely Lily was adopted this March. She is a social girl who loves walks and has a wide variety of jackets and jumpers to keep her warm in the cold weather! What a treat it would be greeted by Lily on a walk in her stylish winter outfits.🧣

We love pupdates, new and old, because they are a reminder of how adoption and a loving home can change a dog's life for the better. If you are thinking about bringing a new addition into your family, please consider adopting a dog and making some happy pupdates of your own. 💙

The Lost Dogs' Home will be open on Monday, the 8th of June, for reclaims only.

Our Cranbourne and North Melbourne shelters will be open between 9:00am and 12:30pm. If you need to reclaim your pet on the public holiday, please come during these hours.

Our shelters are staffed 365 days a year by our animal attendants, veterinary team, animal ambulance and volunteers. If your pet is brought to us, they will be safe and cared for.
