Four 'Gotcha' days with Asher 🎂

12-year-old Asher recently celebrated four incredible years with her family in the usual fashion: cake, smiles, and more cake!

This beautiful girl is doted on by her family, who report that she may be slowing down a little, but she still has plenty of energy for zoomies on her three legs 🏎️

Adopting a senior dog means providing an animal with happiness, comfort and love during a special period of their life. A dog's golden years are just as important as the years that come before, and they are just as deserving of a happy, healthy life in a loving home.

BOB HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!!

If you're looking for a sweet, cute gentleman in your life, consider adopting Bob!

Bob will never let you feel lonely or uncared for. This guy is in it for the long run, and he'll be by your side every step of the way. Plus, who could say no to that round adorable face? 🥰

Bob came to us as a stray, a little frightened and a little confused. Since he arrived, his confidence has grown (with the help of a lot of treats), and he has developed into the courageous (ish) cat you see today. He will need a slow, gentle approach and a bit of extra time and patience to adapt to his new home, but he will be your closest buddy once he's settled in.

Bob is another one of our long-term residents, meaning he has spent over a month waiting to find his forever home. Bob has spent exactly 56 days in the shelter, and we'd really love him to be adopted sooner rather than later. This isn't an easy place for any cat, and Bob is trying his best, but a real home environment will undoubtedly improve his confidence and ability to give and receive affection comfortably.

Bob could potentially live with other pets following a slow, positive introduction period which allows him to settle in at his own pace. You can speak to our adoptions team about what this may look like and how to keep all family members, human and animal, stress-free.

***UPDATE: Sophia has been adopted!

Sophia shouldn't have to spend her senior years feeling frightened and unsure of what is happening around her.

She should be in a quiet home with loving people who will give her all the love and compassion she deserves. So far, Sophia hasn't had any luck finding this special place called home since she was surrendered due to no fault of her own.

Sophia will need some time to warm up to you. It must be confusing to spend your entire life in a home and then end up in a shelter with unfamiliar sights, sounds and smells. Once you get to know her, you’ll see she is a sweet cat who is loving, affectionate and deserving of all the love and affection she once knew. Sophia could potentially live with other quiet pets following a slow, possible introduction period.

Sophia is part of our Rescue or Rehome program, where we are committed to finding homes for cats and kittens who simply cannot cope in the shelter environment. We have seen so much success with our Rescue or Rehome cats and we know Sophia will be another one of these success stories. Zeus made sure his bag was packed and ready to go for his adoption on Saturday!

UPDATE: Zeus has been adopted!

Zeus' special day out was filled with the best doggy activities. 🐾

After 80 days in the shelter, the team wanted to give Zeus a break from the stressful environment and let him have a day to feel like a normal dog again. One of our awesome dog-walking volunteers took him on a special day out that was designed just for him. Open spaces, naps and new treats were all on the agenda for Zeus' day, and he loved every minute of it.

When leaving the shelter, Zeus showed a bit of hesitation, but as soon as he saw that open car door, he was ready to go. He couldn't get into the back of the car fast enough! We hope one day he jumps into a new person's car and never looks back.

Seeing him out and about in the real world, beyond the walls of the shelter, is a perfect reminder that Zeus is more than a profile on a website; he's a dog just like any other. He craves peace, love and companionship over everything.

His ideal home will be single-dog and with people over the age of 16 who are home more often than not. He will be perfect for someone who is in need of a close companion and a best friend. Someone who will devote as much time and love to him as he will to them, and we've experienced firsthand how much love he has to give.

Zeus is still available to adopt from our North Melbourne shelter. His 'doggy day out' backpack is still hanging up on his kennel, waiting to be filled with more toys and treats. If you think you and Zeus could have many more amazing days like this together, come in and meet him today!

UPDATE: Winston has been adopted!

We've told you before, and we are telling you again, Winston is the best! 💫

During the filming of this video, there were many conversations sparked to the tune of 'Winston is such a funny cat', 'you have to see this photo I took of him,' and 'he's such a cool cat, I can't believe no one has adopted him!' Many laughs were had, and it seemed like Winston had as much fun as we did. You can't help but smile at whatever crazy cat-brained thing he's doing.

Still, these filming sessions often end on a sombre note as we close the door and leave Winston in his pod. This will be Winston's second dedicated post.

We love spending time with Winston, but this is too much time. At 112 days in the shelter, he has been here longer than all of the other cats available for adoption. He belongs in a home where he can stretch his legs and have heaps of toys, scratchers, love and attention. The idea of Winston doing full-on proper zoomies in his own home fills us with hope.

Right now, Winston is not the most outwardly affectionate cat. He enjoys some light pats but prefers play over everything else. He is still a very young cat and, with some time in a stable home where he can decompress and enjoy as much play and enrichment as he wants, Winston will have the mental and physical space to accept even more gentle affection. All it takes is for one person to give a chance to the cat 'no one wants.'

Winnie will need to live in a home as the only cat and with kids who are primary school-aged or older. We know these recommendations can be prohibitive for some people, but we always make them with the best interests of the animal and potential adopters in mind.

If you have a friend who is cat-free who you think shouldn't be cat-free, send this post to them! Make sure you tell them to come and meet Winnie with a toy and treat in hand and they'll be BFFs in no time.
