WOW! What a result!

Thanks to the incredible generosity and support of our community, Pooch Party 2026 proudly raised an amazing $5,000! Adding to this outstanding result, Cameron, after being drawn as the winner of the Lucky Paws Square $1,000 cash prize, generously donated the entire amount back to Paws and Claws. To mark this special achievement, Cameron had the pleasure of presenting the cheque to the Paws and Claws team, creating a proud and memorable moment that reflected the kindness, generosity, and community spirit of everyone involved. We are incredibly grateful to all who supported Pooch Party 2026 and helped make a meaningful difference for the animals in our care. 💙🐾

This fantastic outcome was made possible by every person who attended, donated, volunteered, and supported the event from near and far. A special thank you also goes to our wonderful sponsors, Ray White Port Douglas, and everyone who helped make the event such a success.

🐾 COMMUNITY HELP NEEDED 🐾

Our clinic is currently in need of more large blankets and doonas for our patients to keep them warm and comfortable during their stay with us. 💛

We are specifically looking for:
✔️ Large blankets
✔️ Doonas/quilts
❌ We do not currently need towels

If you have any clean spare blankets or doonas you no longer use, we would be incredibly grateful for any donations.

Donations can be dropped off at the clinic during business hours. Thank you so much for supporting the animals in our care and helping us keep them cosy and comfortable. 🐶🐱

Happy 100th Birthday, Sir David Attenborough!

For many of us, David Attenborough’s voice has been part of our lives for as long as we can remember. He taught generations of people to see animals not just as creatures, but as lives worthy of understanding, protection, and care.

Here in Port Douglas, we are incredibly lucky to live and work surrounded by some of the world’s most beautiful natural environments. Between the reef, the rainforest, and the incredible wildlife that calls this region home, we are constantly reminded of just how special nature really is.

Working in veterinary care, we see every day the comfort, joy, and unconditional love that animals bring into people’s lives. It is a privilege to care for beloved pets, support local wildlife where we can, and be part of an industry built on compassion and respect for all creatures, great and small.

Sir David’s lifelong passion for animals and conservation continues to inspire so many of us to slow down, appreciate the world around us, and protect what is precious for future generations.

Thank you for 100 years of wonder, wisdom, and heartfelt storytelling that helped the world fall in love with nature- and for marking our little piece of the world as one of your favourites❤

🚨Melioidosis Alert🚨

Melioidosis, a serious bacterial infection caused by Burkholderia pseudomallei, is on the rise in the Cairns region this year. It thrives in soil and water, especially after heavy rain, putting both pets and people at risk. There have been numerous human cases, and we are seeing it in animals as well.

Signs in Pets:
👉 Fever, lethargy, loss of appetite
👉 Coughing or difficulty breathing
👉 Skin abscesses or wounds that won't heal
👉 Lameness or neurological signs in severe cases

How to Protect Your Pets:
✅ Prevent them from drinking stagnant water
✅ Avoid letting them dig in wet or muddy areas
✅ Keep wounds clean and covered
✅ Seek veterinary care immediately if they show symptoms

Melioidosis can be life-threatening but is treatable if caught early. If your pet is unwell, don't wait - contact us!
